FETE – Thursday, March 17th All of us at school are very excited about our fete this Thursday. Each class has prepared a stall or activity for people of all ages to enjoy. I encour-age everyone to come along and enjoy an even-ing of entertainment, fine food and great compa-ny. Our fete is truly a social event you can’t afford to miss! The evening kicks off at 5:30pm and con-cludes at 7.00pm. School Council Fundraising This year the fundraising committee are changing up the social calendar and introducing new fund-raising events! The Shuffle Party is the first of these. For its suc-cess we rely upon the Guthrie St School Commu-nity to purchase & sell a ticket or two to friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours etc. At pre-sent, we have sold 21 tickets and while the aim is to sell all 100 we need to sell 50 for the night to go ahead. So if you haven't bought a ticket and would like to, you need to do so by the 22nd April. You don't need to attend the Shuffle Party to win! It's a great way to get to know your school com-munity, support the school to 'Cool the Stadium' & a great night out! Parent Teacher Interviews – April 13th and 14th Parent Teacher interviews take place after school on Wednesday April 13th and Thursday April 14th from 3.30 p.m. – 7.00 p.m. As term 1 is such a short term, these interviews are taking place in week 1 of term 2. These discussions are a wonderful opportunity to receive and share information on how children have settled into the new school year, their pro-gress to date and how to maximise the learning opportunities they will experience for the remain-der of 2016. The booking of interview times needs to be com-pleted on-line. On-line bookings will open on Monday 21st March at 4:00pm. You can now book interviews at times that suit YOUR FAMILY BEST.
Go to www.schoolinterviews.com.au and follow the simple instructions inside this newsletter. For parents who do not have access to the internet at home, at work, at a friend’s house or on their phones they need to contact their child’s teacher by note or phone to select times they desire. A computer will be available in the school office area if you wish to use it OR school office staff will book a time for you. Please have a prepared request time.
CSEF - Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund For eligible families, the State Government will fund $125 per student to promote access to camps, sports and excursions. 2016 theme is our diversity is our strength
Harmony Day is ….
a day to remember and celebrate our diversity
a day where activities and celebrations help students to understand how Australians of different
backgrounds live together
a great opportunity for students to learn that not only do they share common ground with other cultures, but
also that our differences make Australia a special place to live
At Guthrie Street we will celebrate Harmony Day by ……….
sharing old photographs of family members
telling stories about the student’s family history What students and families need to do during Week 8 (March 14th – 18th)… A. collect old photographs of family history and talk about them at home. If possible bring them to school to
share with the class. B. If you are an Indigenous Australian
discuss your tribe/family/cultural group name
discuss what area is your family’s part of the country
discuss special family stories
discuss any language of your people that you might know C. If your family came from another country before settling in Australia
discuss what country they come from
discuss how they travelled to Australia
discuss special family stories about your ancestors/family
discuss what your ancestors/family did when they first came to Australia
discuss any words or phrases you might know using the language of your ancestor’s/family’s culture
The information and photographs your child has collected will be utilized during activities and discussions on Monday the 21st of March as they celebrate Harmony Day with their class.
