As we journey through Lent, we remember that Jesus is with us. This time of year can be tough for each of us. Some of us have the winter blues, Some of us are experiencing family problems and others of us are feeling the pressures of the world. This time of year brings many different feelings for all of us. But remember that through every season, God is still with us. I found a poem from a newspaper called the Fishwrapper that talks about being humble through life and through all things. The end of the poem talks about our unspoken prayers being answered and how we are richly blessed. During this Lenten season re-member that each of us are blessed by God and that never ends!
Pastor Joey
“I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.
I was made weak, that I might learn to humbly obey…
I asked for health that I might do great things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things…
I asked for riches that I might be happy,
I was given poverty that I might be wise…
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of others.
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God…
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.
I was given life that I might enjoy all things…
I got nothing I asked for, but everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am, among men, most richly blessed!”

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF SAVANNA ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL
SUNDAY JANUARY 21, 2018 11:30AM
Chairperson John LeComte called the meeting to order with 11 members present and 1 visi-
tor. Kris Yingling gave the opening prayer.
A motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting was made by Kris, seconded by
Susan Michelle Jepsen, and the motion passed. A motion to accept the financial statements as
presented was made by Kathie Prins, seconded by Kris, and the motion passed.
TRUSTEES: Burt Dauphin is the new chairperson. They met this morning and discussed the
problems with the church’s hot water heater’s smell. Burt will contact Plattenberger Plumb-
ing since they installed it. The committee is still working on the church garage roof bids. The
garage door lock needs to be repaired. The battery in the AED unit needs to be replaced. A
training session for the AED unit will be scheduled soon. On February 3,2018 we will have
some tree trimming and brush removal done around the playground area. Burt will check into
having a handrail installed along the steps to the chancel in the sanctuary.
STAFF PARISH RELATIONS: LaVona Grissinger reported there was no response to our
newspaper ad for a nursery attendant. She will check into hiring a music director. A question
about our workman’s compensation insurance was brought up by John. Pastor Joey Garcea
suggested contacting Dwayne Jackson at the conference office.
EDUCATION: Kris told us about the recent acolyte training. The Sunday School is using a
new curriculum. The children will be making goodie boxes for college kids. Kris will check
into adding memory work to the weekly lesson.
FINANCE: Vivian Eaton talked to Randy Bonjour, who is in Florida until May. Randy has
hired a CPA to conduct an audit of the church’s finances, at a cost of $1000.
LAY LEADERSHIP: John would like to do some leadership development and told us about
a meeting at Faith UMC in Freeport this Saturday that he will be attending. He also men-
tioned our self-evaluations that we did several years ago with the Natural Church Develop-
ment program. Pastor Joey told us about a training for worship on February 7,2018 in
Chicago.
OUTREACH: This committee will be having a Souper Bowl luncheon on February 4th after wor-
ship.
WORSHIP: New candle lighters for the acolytes have been ordered. We need to order new robes,
also. Tim Cavanagh has been asked to look at the baptismal font to see if he can repair it. Mardi
Gras will be held on Sunday, February 11th. We will have an Ash Wednesday service on February
14th. Lenten services will be held weekly on Wednesdays after that. The Christmas season went
well.
SCHOLARSHIP: Hayley Guilinger will be receiving her money soon.
INTERCHURCH COUNCIL: Pam Darrow and Kris reported the churches in Savanna would like
to ring their bells on Easter morning. We need a bell! Lenten services will have soup and bread
served before the services. Vacation Bible School has been set for July 16-20, 2018 with a river
theme.
UMW: Bonnie Davies is the new president. She had a meeting with her officers this month and
planned out the yearly meetings and events. The first meeting will be on February 6th.
PASTOR’S REPORT: Joey will be having his commissioning interview on February 5,2018 in
Sycamore and asked for prayers that it goes smoothly.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:40pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Molly Andersen
