When asked about his success and his opinion about his alma marter, Anand had to say: ‘ I proudly say that I’m the student of GIT which is one of the best colleges in Karnataka. GIT is not only famous for its academics, but also for the national level cultural programme “Aura”; national level technical programme “Avalanche”; and national level sports summit’.
When asked about his department, Anand said: ‘ I’m especially thankful to mechanical department that provided me to represent the team “Supersonic Racers”, where this team fabricated, designed and manufactured GoCart, a smaller version of Formlua-1 Race Car. This car won us many prizes and awards and the entire funding which was above 2 lakhs was sponsored by KLS GIT’s management and I’m very proud of GIT’. He further added: ‘My personality evolved in all dimensions when I was in GIT and that helped me to prepare for the UPSC examination and also prepare for the interview and I’m very much thankful to all GIT staff and administrative staff and special thanks to the mechanical department’.
Another eminent alumnus Mr Gajanan Bale from the E&C department cracked the UPSC examination with 663 rank after four unsuccessful attempts.
Gajanan Bale hails from a small town Kudachi in Raibag, Belgaum District. He completed his education upto SSLC in Kannada medium and then graduated from KLS GIT. He selected Kannada as an optional subject for the UPSC examination.
Gajanan said that his first four failures never let him down, but rather made him more experienced and boosted his confidence. Every time he failed he said he learnt new things. He used to spend eight hours of studies and preferred to study in group with aspirants like him. He took a part time job as a content designer while undergoing his coaching at New Delhi to meet his expenses. The Indian Civil Service Examination
serves as the backbone of India and
carries great respect and responsibilities.
Actually, CSE is conducted at various
services under the Government of India.
Most popular among them are Indian
Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police
Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS),
Indian Revenue Service (IRS) etc. Even
though corporate jobs may offer the best
of salaries and perks, a majority of
youngsters and their parents still crave an
entry to the prestigious Indian Civil
Services held by the UPSC
Mr Maitrey Kulkarni KLS Gogte Institute of Technology
Maitrey Kulkarni is one of the successful IFS
officer (2010 batch) from Belagavi. He did his
schooling from M V Herwadkar English School
(2001) and completed his Mechanical
engineering degree in 2008 from KLS Gogte
Institute of Technology and a gold medalist of
VTU in Mechanical engineering.
Maitrey comes from a middle class background
with his grandparents being teachers (Shri
Vishnupant Kulkarni and Smt Sindhutai
Kulkarni). His father is a retired Commercial
Artist. Mother (Smt Sheeladhi Kulkarni) runs a
small household mess and his elder brother
Sankalp works at the Zuari Agro-Chemicals,
Goa. Ever since his childhood, he had decided
to join the Indian Foreign Service.
Maitrey had developed a liking for international
relations very early in his life. While reading
newspapers, magazines; while watching TV
shows, or even when reading fiction, he found
that it was always events on the world stage
that caught his eye. He researched a while and
concluded that the Indian Foreign Service
provided him a grand avenue to channelize his
interest into a career.
A wonderful combination of being in the thick of
his interests and his country’s representative
was what made him decide to pursue the
Foreign Service as a career, around his pre-
university days. His first attempt to the UPSC
was in 2008. In was in his second attempt in
2010 that he secured the 103rd place and he
joined the IFS.
Maitrey had decided to take up Mechanical
Engineering as one of the optional subjects for
the UPSC CS Examination and therefore
carefully studied the core sections in
Mechanical Engineering while undergoing the
BE course. It was after his graduation that he
shifted focus to the other optional subjects
and the vast subject of General Studies.
‘Confidence, steadfastness and perseverance
are all that are needed to crack the UPSC
exam. But an added advantage would be a cool
mind. It’s after all just another exam and the
less bones one makes about it the easier the
process becomes’, is what he opines on the
main qualities required to begin with the UPSC
exams.
