Unity in the Metroplex Annual MLK Parade

January 17th marked the Annual MLK Parade in Carrollton. Since 2009 C.L.O.C. has participated in this an-nual community event. The parade is sponsored by Christ Community Connections, in partnership with the City of Carrollton. Unity in the Metroplex was this year’s theme. The parade’s route began on James-town Street behind City Hall and ended at Ted Polk Middle School, followed by refreshments and a pro-gram centered around the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Be the dream!

Joyce Manny, a retired educator with 38 years of service is our member “In the

Spotlight”. After her dedicated service to the teaching profession, she continues

her commitment of community involvement by helping others.

She has one daughter, and everyone who knows Joyce knows she has a love for

baking. Her pound cake melts in your mouth! She is a member of Mt Pisgah

Missionary Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.

Joyce is a woman of her word. When given a task, she always follows through.

She is a great addition to the C.L.O.C. organization and we welcome her willing-

ness to work with us. She presently serves as coordinator of C.L.O.C.’s Foreign

Missions projects and is a member of the Scholarship Committee.

When asked why she joined C.L.O.C. Joyce replied, “ I was invited to a scholar-

ship luncheon by Marion Bradford. I was invited to different activities that

C.L.O.C. was involved in. I kept going and was invited to become a member.

The C.L.O.C. organization has really blessed me. It gives me an opportunity to

give back, study the word, and fellowship with a great group of ladies.”

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give some-

thing back by becoming more.” ~ Anthony Robbins

C.L.O.C. Scholarship Application Available

On Line C.L.O.C.’s scholarship application is right at your finger-

tips, and the Scholarship Committee, chaired by Jo Gard-

ner, is eager to evaluate and select C.L.O.C.’s 2015 re-

cipients. After evaluating applications, scholarships are

awarded to students who have met criteria set forth by

the Scholarship Committee. A point system is used to

evaluate each application. It provides a fair, numerical

system for ranking applicants on each criterion. Three

criteria carry the most point weight, a maximum 20

points each. These criteria are (1) the applicant’s two-page written essay, (2) finan-

cial need and (3) references. All interested students can download C.L.O.C.’s scholar-

ship application by going to the website at christianladiesofconquest.com.

and click on “Current Projects” page.

All applications MUST be received or postmarked on or before May 31st.

For eight years, C.L.O.C. has been com-

mitted to assisting college-bound stu-

dents with tuition and other expenses by

awarding yearly scholarships. It is re-

warding to know C.L.O.C. scholarship re-

cipients have graduated from college and

have opened businesses, completed

medical school, and are working in corpo-

rate America. Others continue their col-

lege studies, working diligently to achieve

their goals and aspirations. Investing in

our youth is our goal, and it has paid off.

We are very excited about this year’s

scholarship program, but we need your

help. Enclosed, along with our quarterly

newsletter, is a letter explaining the

Crockett and Louise Lewis and Xanthia Calahan-Weatherall Memorial Scholarships, along with a do-

nation slip and self-addressed return envelope. Your contribution to our 2015 Scholarship Fund

Drive will enable C.L.O.C. to continue assisting students with the high cost of college tuition. Can we

count on you? Scholarships will be awarded June 13, 2015 at our Annual Scholarship Luncheon.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

C.L.O.C. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible. For donation via PayPal,
