Its CASOROCK time! Now an annual feature of our performing arts calendar, CASOROCK will happen on Wednesday 12 December from 6pm, featuring eight bands from across the district, including four from Castle Hill High School. It will be our pleasure to once again host this terrific event for young people who want to showcase their wares in everything from heavy metal (yes, I know!) to jazz. I just love the idea that students have the opportunity to express their imagination and creativity through this event. Our music staff are right behind this. Theyre the roadies - and the event organisers! They just dont stop. What with the new recording studio – our first elective class for year 9 stu- dents starts in 2019 for 30 students – music for students at Castle Hill High School will be stronger and more dynamic than ever. Film Festival time Again, an emerging feature of end- of - year activities for students, the English faculty will showcase a Film Festival for students on Friday 14 December. If last years inaugural event is anything to go by, it will be ter- rific. Film as an art form is so much more accessible now with the aid of basic technology like smartphones. Our young people thrive on this. Its such a pleasure to see such creativity on display. 2018 HSC results HSC results will be available to students and schools on- line on Thursday 13 December. The senior executive and I will be waiting with baited breath at 6am to download results, then to begin some analysis. Follow- ing, the next day, ATARs will be distributed to students (but not the school). As always, we will host a BBQ on December 14 for students to return to share their stories and discuss results.

P and C action We have a wonderful P and C filled with interesting, involved and diligent parents who work closely with the school in the interests of students. They are so committed. As we are increasing in size – this is a conversation we’ve been having for a decade – the P and C is forwarding a submission to government personnel for a permanent building (one just like Cher-rybrook’s will be welcome) and additional toilets to accommodate the growth in numbers. We believe that we are the second largest school in the state. We have our fingers crossed. I want to thank the P and C for their work here.

Year 6 welcome We welcomed over 300 year 6 students for their Orientation Day on Tuesday 4 December. They were terrific, filled with enthusiasm and wonder. We’re really looking forward to meeting them again next year. They will be our HSC graduating class in 2024!

2018 Presentation Evening – Monday 17 December One of our premier events, the annual Presentation Evening will take place on 17 December for par-ents, students and teachers in our auditorium. This event marks a celebration of excellence – of effort and achievement. I congratulate all award recipients knowing that they have worked very hard for this.

Pop- Up Globe Theatre- Macbeth Review

As part of studying Shakespeare for one of our units, year 7 got an amazing opportunity to visit the Pop-up Global theatre to watch one of Shakespeare’s plays- Macbeth. On Tuesday the 27th of Novem-ber 2018, year 7 gathered at the start of session two, to board the busses. We later arrived at Centennial Parklands, the grade enjoyed the company of their friends and ate some food. Some students in our grade found it more enjoying running around after the long bus ride. The rest of the grade found it more comfortable to sit and relax under the shade, with the warm sun and the gentle breeze. Soon after we finished our lunch, the teachers handed our tickets and we went inside. Before our eyes, lay a huge stage with an Elizabethan era castle behind it. The theatre had an astonishing set up that mimicked what the audience would have witnessed in the Elizabethan Era. The eye-catching costumes took the audience right back into the Shakespearean world of the Elizabe-than times. In addition to that, the characters interaction with the viewers made it more entertaining to watch. The ambient sound in the background along with the massive props that they used throughout the play, took the performance to the next level. The characters’ voices and singing were vibrant and flowed across the whole theatre so that everyone heard the jokes and moralistic information. Their make-up, face painting and their facial expressions really brought out the actual character that they were trying to portray and created an enticing atmosphere. During the interval, we had the chance to eat some snacks and digest the magical experience we got from the show. We chattered away about the show and the fake blood stains we received from the actors. The show concluded with a great dance and many cheers from the spectators. We all clapped along to the Elizabethan song with enormous smiles painted across our faces. While we exited from the the-atre, everyone was thrilled. It was a fantastic experience and we would like to thank all the English and Drama teachers as well as Miss Paheerathan, for making this possible. Written by: Aarya Sambyal (7E110)

Fantastic Photographs

Year 10 photography students have been creating imaginative “Dreamscape” photo-graphs. These images are what dreams are made of, escape from reality and view the unbelievable. Angela Xie is in the clouds watching these beautiful winged elephants floating serene-ly in the blue and white sky their bonds of gravity released and left on the earth be-low. Would we not have chosen such an escape like this ourselves? Let your imagi-nation take you where you want to go. Alysia Butlin’s imagination has taken her to the land of the giant M & M so large in size one would imagine needing the use of a hammer and chisel to help you eat your way into that enormous yellow M&M on which she is standing.

Fantastic Photographs

Sarah Tchepak’s imagery takes us on a different but mysterious journey to an amazing and eerie location filled with anticipation of how events may unfold. The moon is enormous and dominates the sky, a beautiful backdrop to the strange winged creatures, remnants from pre-historic times who swarm like a plague and fill the atmosphere to escape their own inevitable doom. This bizarre combi-nation of images is intruding and allows for our own interpretation of this photograph. Neve Beaumont’s Dreamscape image reveals super human hands that would need to made of titani-um to withstand the heat of molten lava. However, in a dream are there any limitations?
