The Village of Coal Valley water Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also known as a safe drinking water or water quality report, is an annual report that summarizes the quality of drinking water Coal Valley’s community public water systems. The purpose is to raise customers’ awareness of where their drinking water comes from, the quality of their drinking water, what it takes to deliver water to their home and the importance of protect-ing drinking water sources. Coal Valley has two separate systems. A majority of the village is served by the report called 2019 CCR – Water Report. The re-mainder of the Village of Coal Valley located in Henry County near the golf course is served by a report called2019 CCR - Oakview Estates Water Report. Both reports are located at: http://coalvalleyil.org/docs/2019CCRReportCoalValley.pdf and http://coalvalleyil.org/docs/2019CCRReportOakViewEstates.pdf

Being adaptable during COVID-19 safety restrictions has kept many businesses in Coal Valley going through difficult times. While I was furloughed from work for a couple weeks last month, I took the time to renew vaccines and licensing for my pets. We are lucky here in Coal Valley to have our Rock Island County Animal Shelter just a mile away from our vil-lage. As Coal Valley’s Rock Island County Board Member, I wish to explain that the animal shelter is a county agen-cy that has responded to the needs of animal owners by having curbside vac-cinations offered on Wednesdays, rain or shine. The curbsite vaccination clinic is on Wednesdays from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM. No appointment necessary. Pictured on the right is Operations Coordinator Samantha DeYoung welcoming those to the curbside clinic and taking down pet information. The Rock Island County Animal Care and Control Shelter offers all stan-dard veterinary services. They have a full veterinarian clinic available to low-income families and to those who have adopted a pet from any of the area shelters. Services are offered at a low-cost and include exams, heartworm testing, nail trimming, microchipping, vaccinations, declawing, spaying and neutering and many other standard veterinary services. The shelter is located at 4001 78th Avenue, Moline. Phone: (309) 558-DOGS (3647). That is the street that becomes W. 4th Avenue in Coal Valley.

Coal Valley Days has been rescheduled for July 2nd and 3rd, 2021. The decision to cancel the 2020 Coal Valley Days was made because Coal Valley Days did not feel that the State of Illinois would be in Phase 5 to hold the festival in 2020. Festival Director Steph Genova states, “We understand that this is a huge disappointment and may caused some inconvenience for you and with that we are sincerely sorry. We are hopeful to maybe have a one-day event in Fall to kick off the season. Be watching for updates. If not, we will have a better festival next year.” Vendors and car show participants at the festival can either re-serve their same spot at next year’s event or Coal Valley Days will issue a refund. Refunds can be requested via email at [email protected]. Requests will be processed within three business days. Those with questions can contact Steph Genova at [email protected] or (309) 314-5542. Coal Valley Days is looking for board members, volunteers, and chairpersons, so if you’re in-terested in volunteering please contact Steph Genova at the number listed above.

A village resident reached out to Coal Val-ley Administrator Annette Ernst about her creating a “Blessing Box” and hav-ing it placed at the Village Hall. The Blessing Box is pantry for those in need during the COVD-19 pan-demic. Residents may take what they need and others may add to the “pantry”. The Blessing Box is on our property by the coal mine cart.

The Coal Valley Village Hall will be

closed September 7th in

observance of Labor Day,

The Robert R. Jones Public Library has added an opportunity for our patrons to access library re-sources through Curbside Pickup. This service is extended to to all Illinois PriarieCat library card holders. Curbside Pickup is restricted to only items owned by Robert R. Jones Public Library. Hours of curbside service is Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Robert R. Jones Public Library will be closed to the public until further notice as a response to the COVID-19 virus. The library is located adjacent to the Coal Valley Village Hall at 900 1st Street, Coal Valley and can be reached at 799-3047. The Robert R. Jones Public Library was begun as a tax-supported township library by voter ref-erendum in 1967. However, the Coal Valley Unit, Homemaker’s Extension Association began a library as a community service project in the early 1940s. The library had no permanent home, and the collec-tion was stored in garages and other facilities when no suitable location could be secured.

Even before passage of the referendum, the building at First Street and U.S. Route 150 was reno-vated for use as a library. This property, donated by Dr. Robert R. Jones had been a residence owned by his uncle John Studer. Additions were completed in 1973 and 1980 which substantially increased the size of the library. In November of 2000, voters approved a referen-dum to increase the tax levy rate for the purpose of constructing a new library. Construction on the Coal Valley Municipal Center was begun in June of 2002 and completed in the spring of 2003. Since that time the library and Village of Coal Valley have jointly operated the Municipal Center and shared the oper-ating expenses.
