Hello to all,
Just about here... "April Spring Samboree 2014" that is... Be-
fore that time though, let's not forget "Area 3 Friendship."
By the time you read this, it will be over; but as of now Mar-
zelle Carmickle is hard at work getting everything ready for
all of us. Hope to see a lot of you there. Then several of us
are off for Waco, Texas to attend their Samboree. Hope we
have a good Arkansas turnout for them as well. After leaving
Waco, we will be in Shreveport for LA Samboree. I'm sure
we will enjoy AJ's Samboree, too.
Then our very own "Arkansas County Fair!!!" Packed full of
fun, food, and seminars. Things to remember:
Break out your boots, cowboy hats, clown suits or what-
ever you choose to wear for our "Friday Costume
Day."
Don't forget the "Carnival Afternoon" on Friday.
Please be sure to submit your Memorial picture for the
"Memorial Table" setup. Also, please have someone
at the Memorial Service on Sunday morning, to rep-
resent our loved ones.
Scrapbook Judging and also arts/craft judging for all
chapters wishing to participate.
All Special awards and ticket drawings will be Friday night
with the exception of Chinese Auction. *If you think you
might NOT be there on Saturday Night, please put your name
and phone number on all "CHINESE AUCTIONS" tickets!!!
You do not have to be present to win!!!
Looking forward to seeing all of you there!!!

TION OF MY HEART BE ACCEPTABLE IN THY SIGHT, O

AREA 4 FRIENDSHIP A really big “thank you” to all those who attended the Area 4 Friendship. Your presence made it a wonderful success. Although the number of rigs was down to 26 (plus two walk-ins), we tried to make up for it by eating the share of those absent while having their fun also. We wel-comed two newcomer couples: Dale & Melvis Baxter and James & Linda Niblett. We were also glad to have Bill & Dee Nery and James Stinson (who is our founding ASD for Area 4). Several members came in early so we had an impromptu beans and cornbread potluck Of 46 attendees, 31 played at least one game. With those numbers, there was quite heavy competition. Thanks to Jim Wat-son for overseeing the games. Many members went to JJ’s Restaurant for several meals. JJ’s buffets are outstanding (I personally recommend their ambrosia and ate a spoonful or two of it!!). JJ donated two gallons of cold slaw and two gallons of potato salad for our Wednesday meal. Katy Weaver did a fantastic job leading line dancing. The ladies are now ready to dance at the Samboree. The skit by the Mallard’s was hilarious and Tommy’s follow-up joke was funny too. Joy Godwin and Mary Lou Mahurin entertained us with music and singing. Dee Nery sang for us. We enjoyed all of the entertainment. Anytime Good Sammers get together, there will be food - lots of it. The chocolate candy bowl was always full as well as the sweet roll box. Lawrence had smoked Brisket for Wednesday night, Thursday night Mr. Bunker smoked Pork Butt for dinner, and Friday night was a won-derful spread for potluck. Every meal had a wide selection of delicious desserts. Friday was pancake and sausage breakfast - the third FREE meal of the week. A big thank you to Big Pine Sams who set up the Chinese Auc-tion and sold tickets. Grand prizes were an RV outdoor rug, a nice camping chair (donated by Bill and Dee Nery), a “Big Bobber Cooler” (donated by Moix RV), an ensemble of Razorback items (donated by Marie Hopson and Katie Weaver) and a certificate for two nights early bird parking at the Samboree. Friday night we played Samgo and gave out door prizes. Saturday morning we gathered for some gospel singing and a devotional by Ray Williford (Rough ‘n Ready Chaplain). Goodbyes were said with promises to see each other at the Samboree. Thanks to all who joined us; and, if you didn’t - just look at what all you missed!!! (see page 7 for game winners and pictures)

We are going home!!!! And looking forward to seeing eve-
ryone at the Spring Samboree. Our time here has been
a lot of fun and we’ve met people from all over the
country. Now it’s time to head for NW AR and get
ready for our Area 1 Friendship Campout at Grove, OK.
The whole state is invited to join us and make new
friends!!
We enjoyed a unique experience on March 5 while park
hosting at Caddo Lake SP in TX. We watched a release
of 2-yr old paddle fish. at the Park. A total of 47
paddle fish were being released with some traveling on
to Jefferson, TX and Big Cypress Bayou there. Each
was implanted with a radio transmitter and will ping one
of three towers around the water in the area to enable
some tracking of this unusual fish. They were raised
and imported from Tishomingo, OK.
A couple of the Friendship Campouts have already hap-
pened. Look through this newsletter and enjoy the ar-
ticles and pictures that have been sent in from those
who attended these special get-togethers. Also check
out the upcoming events and give some thought to in-
cluding one or two in your camping schedules.
The Spring Samboree is only a few weeks away. You
have the option of coming in early and experiencing a
different part of the Samboree. Early parking will be-
gin on Sunday afternoon.

SUGARLOAF SAMS The Sugarloaf Sams met February 26th at Drasco’s. The meeting was called to order by President Diane Plummer. Our Chaplain, Bob Carr, led us with an opening prayer. Don Gibson led us with the Pledge to the Flag. Roll call was answered with 18 members attend-ing. We responded by the number of volunteer hours, mileage - this month's total was 48 hours and 80 miles; we had 200 hours and 366 miles for January. Due to the "ice storm" (2 times) we did not move much away from home. The minutes were read by Secretary Pat Smith and approved as read. A Trip/Campout is planned. Harold Stribling reported the next campout will be the Bull Shoals "Adopt-a-Park" Clean-up March 9-12. Members have their lots reserved. Reminder: If you wish to come Sunday, your site may not be available until 3pm. For more information check with www.recreation.gov.

Also, Katy Weaver has asked us to do a short skit after the "Queen Con-test" so the judges can announce the winners. POTATO GUN CONTEST AT NEXT
ARKANSAS SAMBOREE
At the 2014 Arkansas Spring Samboree we are going to have a potato gun contest. This is open to both male and female above the age of 21. Louisiana has been doing this for years, and it seems time for the rest of us to have some fun. Louisiana has also said they would have some of their people come to our Sambo-ree and challenge us in our contest. These potato guns are easy to make and do not have to be fancy. Go to any of the following web sites to see how they are
made and come join the fun:

WHISPERING PINES
Whispering Pines March meeting was held at Cloud Nine, Hot Springs. We had 19 rigs plus 2 visitors John & Pat Maglievaz at the campout. Thursday night Bobby and Lisa Duckworth furnished chili for the chapter where we all chowed down. Then we finished up with lots of games. We learned a new game from our group that goes to Texas for the winter. It was called “Up Your”; a very fun game. Lots of Hand & Foot, Dominoes, and a few hands of 31 were also played. Friday we filled up on Hamburgers and we had our chapter meeting afterwards. Saturday the men cooked breakfast. We had some changes to our Camping schedule for the year. After the meeting we all gathered for more games. Our next meeting April 17-19 will be at the Samboree on Friday @ 11:30 while we are eating our Ice Cream on the left side of the stage. We also discussed the Samboree. Runners and volunteers that we need for the Samboree were signed up. We will also help with the hospitality on Friday morning. Lisa and Phyllis will do the shop-ping, and the whole chapter will help serve. We need to dress in our best county fair costumes for Friday. The campout May15-18 is at Catherine’s Landing. You need to contact Pam Harrell (501-658-1677) to get the number of your spot before you can make your reservations. The dates for July have changed to July 23-27 at Mt View; the only number to call is (1-870-269-3758). September 17-21 is at Denton Ferry RV Park, 740 Denton Ferry Rd. Cotter, AR (1-870-435-7275) or go on line @ [email protected] to make reservations. October 22-26 campout is at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, AR (1-871-285-3113). November 12-16 we will be camping at Pecan Grove. 3768 Hwy 65, Lake Village (1-871-265-3005).Jeanette asked that if anyone drinks soda or anything from a can to please save the tabs. That goes to one of our charities for the year. Bring them to the Samboree in April.
Hope everyone has made your reservations for each of the camp outs. See you soon.
ROCK CITY SAMS Rock City Sams held their March campout in Hot Springs at J & J RV Park on March 13 - 16. Most everyone ar-rived at the park around 1:00 p.m. After setup most of the group sat outside the recreation room following the sun. Conversation was good in the sunshine. It was a bit chilly in the shade. Slowly the group broke up with different groups moving downtown to DQ for Blizzards or other ice cream concoctions. Some of the group re-turned to the RV Park for a round of “31.” I hear that Donna Brown was the big winner of the game. Friday morning Jim Mauldin, Pat, and John Kincannon decided to make a day at the Horse Races. It seems there was some in the group that brought back a little more than they left with (monies.) Some of the others de-cided that Friday was a good day to sew. There were 25 teaching dolls cut, sewn, turned, and stuffed and 12 art dolls completed. Project Manager, Jennie Mauldin even managed to include two men in the group as Steve Brown and G. W. Sanders joined the group stuffing some of the teaching dolls.
The ladies got a night off from cooking as the group met at Grampa’s Fish House (recent name change to Salty Oyster Grill) for a very good supper of a variety of different foods. The group didn’t linger too long after the food was served as a group of ten children were joined by their adult families in a birthday celebration. Believe it or not the adults were much nosier than the ten children. Saturday morning our hosts Glenn and Brenda Mayle cooked a very delicious breakfast for everyone. They served bis-cuits, gravy, bacon, different kinds of
sausages, hash browns, eggs and coffee from their Keurig. They out did them-selves with this breakfast. IHOP could not have done as well. Everyone returned to their rigs to ready themselves for the monthly meeting of the chapter at 10:00 a.m. President Richard Armstrong welcomed our guests Bill & Dee Nery and Roger & Linda Robbins. As usual the meeting was very informa-tive. A rousing game of Hand and Foot commenced. After the game everyone retired to the rigs to concentrate on the potluck supper. The potluck was ever so good. Glenn Mayle cooked some delicious BBQ chicken and all the ladies added their special touches to the evening meal.

QUEEEN WILHELMINA GOOD SAMS
The Queen Wilhelmina Good Sams were iced out of the Daisy State Park campout. The group settled for Papa's Mexican Restaurant for a meeting. The food was excellent and enjoyed by all. QWGS lost one of its members recently. Frank Andrews died on March 3, 2014; and his funeral service was held March 6 here in Mena. Upcoming camping includes First Monday Trade Days at Canton, Texas, also the Arkansas Samboree and Waveland Park outside of Booneville, Arkansas.
AREA 5 FRIENDSHIP CAMPOUT The Area 5 Friendship will be at Hope, AR beginning October 7 and going home Friday October 10. Several have said they will arrive on Monday October 6. Rates are $15.00 per night for water, 30 amp and no sewer is available but there is a dump station. No reservations are required. A full schedule of events is planned and will be published later; but, if you like fun and action, plan to attend. Last year’s live entertainment rocked the house on Thursday night with good, old-time gospel. We hope to have them again along with games, a cake walk and lots of other events. We urge those outside Area 5 to join us and see how much fun a Friendship Campout can be. Bernie and Judy Bauer

BELLE POINT SAMS
The Belle Point Good Sammers are “out sporting in 2014”. This week, 21 eager campers came “out of the woodwork” to attend the March meeting in Brent, OK at Lakeside RV Campsite to break in this new camping season. Al Horne and Roy and Yvonne Mizell didn’t get to camp this time, though, but came for the meeting and delicious barbecue at Wild Horse Barbecue. There seemed to be lots of laughter in the air which was a welcome break from this very longgggggg winter. Even Oleta Bogner had lots of en-
tertaining stories to share with the group. She was so fired up after the Louisiana trip that Sue Boone felt the need to present her with a petri-fied frog. They claimed it was an “inside joke”, but before the campout was over, everyone had managed to share in the fun. One thing is for sure, Good Sammers are not boring. On the second day of the campout, Gayle Smith headed up a marvel-ous breakfast for everyone, which in turn, stimulated everyone’s taste buds and thus prompted plans for an evening potluck. Good Sammers are hearty eaters, too! The aroma must have reached the Rolstons, because they came rolling in with a big blackberry cobbler just in time to share. On Thursday, some of the rigs began to head back for a few more weeks of hibernation; but, needless to say, they will all be ready to spring into Spring in time for the next campout in April at Iron Mountain near Mena, AR. Then it’s off to the Arkansas State Samboree for more fun. Good Sammers are great!
In closing, it should be noted that the Belle Point Sam Chapter’s fear-less leader and secretary, John and Ann Martin, were greatly missed for this campout. Seems they headed for Florida for some much needed “family time”. We wish them well, but have our antennas out searching for John’s famous outdoor scout cooking. Vice President, John Prell, did a wonderful job of filling in with the presidential duties except for the cooking!! For some reason, he, nor anyone else seemed interested in making a cake or biscuits over an open pit. It must have been too cold or something. Until next campout . . . be Good Samari-tans always. Safe Travels Secretary, Willie Mae

ARKANSAS ONE The March meeting of Arkansas One was held on Saturday, March 22 at Smokin’ in Style BBQ in Hot Springs with eleven members and 2 guests. We all enjoyed eating some good barbecue at one of our favorite places, and welcomed visitors, Rita and Mayo Powell. Business discussed included some of our responsibilities for the upcoming Samboree:
Door Prizes - Dolly, Katy, James & Linda; Stage Decorations - Katy, Bud (skirt) and
everybody else, too; Kissing Booth- Jean; Bruce – fair queen contest. We also talked about upcoming campouts
and updating our chapter roster quarterly. It was good to have such a large group.
MAYFLOWER PILGRIMS Mayflower Pilgrims had their first camp out of the year at Toad Suck Park in Conway March 20, 21 & 22. Present were Leonard & Lena Coker, Howard & Ruth Wheeler, Jackie & Judy Turner, Jerrell & Betty Dickens, & Fayrene McCoy. Felix & Carole Hall were out of town because of death in family. We missed them. We dodged the rain & absorbed a lit-tle sunshine. Did lots of visiting & catching up. It was a good time.
DORCHEAT SAMS The Dorcheat Sams met in Lake Village, AR at the “mule barn.” The meeting was called to order by President Doug Carter and James Elmore offered the opening prayer. February minutes were accepted. New business included sending $20.00 for door prizes to Samboree and Hope Friendship. Jane Thompson was nominated to become our Benevolent Fund chair-person. The May campout will be rescheduled for May 5-8. Our sympathy and love goes out to the family of our friend and fellow camper Charlie Lewis who died unex-pectedly. Charlie and his wife JoAnn were member of our group for many years and Charlie had held various offices. His sweet smile and sunny disposition will be missed by all.

Camping World was on the grounds at the AR Good Sam Spring Samboree and provided invaluable support with
seminars, RV’s on display, a well-stocked booth on the arena floor, and a complement of staff from the North Little
Rock store that included a mechanic whose calendar was full every day of the Samboree.
Samboree attendees made good use of the expertise brought to them by the associates attending the Samboree:

Stop in the store and let these people know how much Good Sams appreciates all they do for the RV community.
Their help doesn’t stop at the Samboree; they’ll be glad to assist you in any way they can.
