But how was he enabled to make such a record of firmness of charac- ter, uprightness, and wisdom? It was the result of careful training in his early years. He had consulted duty rather than inclination; and the purity and simple trust of the boy bore fruit in the deeds of the man. The most brilliant talents are of no value unless they are improved; industrious habits and force of character must be gained by cultivation. A high moral character and fine mental qualities are not the result of accident. God gives opportu- nities; success depends upon the use made of them. The openings of Providence must be quickly discerned and eagerly seized upon.” 5T 321.1 This, my Bookman friend, is what constitutes true success: industrious habits, consulting duty rather than pleasure, purity, integrity, cultivation of God-given talents, quickly and eagerly seizing upon the opportunities God sets before you. “There are few who realize the influence of the little things of life upon the development of character. Nothing with which we have to do is really small. The varied circumstances that we meet day by day are designed to test our faithfulness and to qualify us for greater trusts. By adherence to principle in the transactions of ordinary life, the mind becomes accustomed to hold the claims of duty above those of pleasure and incli- nation. Minds thus disciplined are not wavering between right and wrong, like the reed trembling in the wind; they are loyal to duty because they have trained themselves to habits of fidelity and truth. By faithfulness in that which is least they acquire strength to be faithful in greater matters.” “An upright character is of greater worth than the gold of Ophir. Without it none can rise to an honorable eminence. But character is not inherited. It cannot be bought. Moral excellence and fine mental qualities are not the result of accident. The most precious gifts are of no value unless they are improved… God gives opportunities; success depends upon the use made of them.” PP 222 – 223.1 Literature Evangelists have a higher calling to both duty and success than do others. Our success can be scrutinized and measured… “The output can be determined by the input!” How much time do you spend on your knees and in spiritual preparation? How much time do you invest in im- proving your canvass and the knowledge of your product? How many businesses do you advertise every week… are you consistent in your adver- tising, or sporadic? How many canvasses do you give each week, and how much time do you invest in analytically seeking better ways to see more people? The year is still young… it’s not too late to analyze last year’s performance and to prayerfully set new goals for 2016. God isn’t looking for the most educated nor the most talented, He is looking for the most committed, the most surrendered… He doesn’t need your ability, but He earnestly wants your availability! Do you have what it takes to be the best?

What does it mean to be the best? What are the characteristics common to successful people, achievers, doers—the ones

who find ways to become the very best at everything they do?

Would you pass the “Best” test?

Here are 12 questions to find out if you’ve got what it takes to rise to the top:

1. Are you an optimist?

You can't get to the top if you don't think there is a top, or if you think you can't make it. Optimists always believe things can

improve or be done better. This pushes them to be their best.

2. Do you have a vision?

Visionaries can see ahead of the pack. Their eyes aren't locked on the here and now. They see the bright future and what things will look like when they reach their destiny. While working hard for today, they live for the future. They “begin with the

end in mind.”

3. Do you relentlessly pursue excellence?

The status quo is not for the best. They want to experience the best and be the best. That means giving their best. They go

the extra mile so that in everything they do, in everything they say and think, they are striving for excellence.

4. Do you have a lifelong habit of personal growth?

They don’t want to stay at the level they are at. They want to grow in their work, their intellect, their spirituality and their rela-tionships— in every area of their life. And they discipline themselves to put themselves in situations where they grow. Per-

sonal growth doesn’t “just happen.” People must choose to grow.

5. Do you welcome competition?

The best know that the best competition is in outperforming what they did yesterday. They love it because they know that competing against their own performance keeps them from becoming lazy or complacent. Seeking God to help them achieve more—to remain the best by forging ahead and setting an example for others to test God for themselves.

6. Do you strive to be a leader?

Everyone is a leader—because someone is following you. So you must strive to be the best. People become leaders because they realize that others need a pacesetter, an example, and they want to make a difference. And they want to be equipped with

the skills necessary to lead others to a better place.

7. Do you leave a legacy?

Leaders aren't in it just for themselves, though they will surely reap the rewards of being the best. They build things that last be-

yond themselves, things that can be enjoyed by others as well. They leave a mark for future leaders to see and use.

8. Do you know how to prioritize and execute your goals?

Just like weight loss boils down to eating right and exercising, personal management boils down to prioritizing and executing. First prioritize your activities—the important stuff goes on the top. Then execute—do them. The best have habits and discipline that get

them to the top, by doing the best things and doing them first.

9. Do you focus on building relationships?

Success does not come alone. Everyone who achieves greatness does it with the help of countless others. How do the best get others to help them? They treat them with respect. They embrace them. People become the best because they help other people,

and people like them.

10. Do you make excuses?

When they fail, they admit it and move on. They get back up and do it right next time. They let their actions speak louder than

their words. They stand tall and do it better next time. No excuses, just results.

11. Do you strive for “good” or “best?”

Yes, they could say, “This is good." But that would mean they have settled for less than the best. Many people think that good is good. Good is not good. Good is the enemy because it keeps us from the best. What will it be: good or best? The best choose the

best.

12. Do you dare to dream?

While others live the mundane and settle into a life they never bargained for, a rut, the best dream of a better life. And then they take the necessary risks to achieve their dreams. They live by Teddy Roosevelt's quote: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

We appreciate the work that each of you are doing for the Kingdom of God. In order to fulfill our mis-sion in the publishing ministry we have to be good stewards in all areas of our work. Sometimes though we can slip into habits that are not the best for ourselves or the work. Our desire is that each of you have good accounts and receive the maximum commission. Because of this we want to emphasize as a reminder the following which was covered at our year-end meetings. In order to process your contracts and receive a commission from HHES your contracts must be Every contract that will be financed by HHES must have the following information in order to be pro-cessed:

- Customers phone number, preferably 2 different phone numbers.

- Employer section completed. Indicate employer, retired, disability or other source of income.

- Reference section on the back of the contract filled out.

- Email address, if none indicated.

- Social security number. 90% of the contracts should have a number. This is the only way to be sure it is the same person. As mentioned at the yearend LE meeting, this information is important so that if someone moves or quits paying on their account you have a way to follow-up with them. This information is needed in the collection process in order to be able to find out where they are.

2016 STAR POINTS BONUS INCENTIVE

Qualification Guidelines

The Literature Evangelist with the highest score weekly will receive

a $50.00 bonus check!

Points

1. Advertise a minimum of 60 offices with lead books per week. 1

2. Advertise a minimum of 40 other businesses with “Take One” stands per week. 1

3. Distribute a minimum of 40 FHCB bookmarks “door to door” per week. 1

4. Receive a minimum of 20 leads per week. 1

5. Give a minimum of 15 Big Book demonstrations per week. 1

6. Work a minimum of 40 hours per week. 1

7. Complete #s 1-6 and receive an additional bonus point. 1

8. Process $1,000 in orders taken for the week & receive additional point. 1

9. For each additional $500 in weekly book orders, receive another bonus point. 1

10. Highest weekly processed total receives one additional bonus point. 1

11. Receive an additional point for each $100 collected from financed clients. 1

12. Accomplish #s 8 and 11 and receive an additional bonus point. 1

13. Sign up 5 correspondence “Search for Truth” Bible studies per week. 1

14. Hand out a minimum of 25 GLOW tracts or FREE literature per week. 1

15. Share a minimum of 10 prayers in homes canvassed per week. 1

Total potential points per week: 15

NOTE: A tie in points will be broken by the highest amount in processed sales. Incentive eligibility is dependent upon timely receipt of L.E. weekly orders to H.H.E.S. Also, in order to qualify for the Star Point bonus award, your report must reach the conference office no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and you must have advertised a minimum of 60 offices and 40 other businesses.

Highest cumulative points by the end of June will receive an Apple iPad. Second place will receive a $250.00 gift card for Best Buy.

A DAY LIKE ANY OTHER

A day like any other, I canvassed down several long streets. Doing my best, praying my hardest, and no books were going out. I couldn’t understand! Why not? Surely if I put my whole effort into this work, God would reward me…? Sighing with disappointment, I kept canvassing. Wondering if the problem was my own, I decided to ex-

periment with a more professional approach, as opposed to my usual bubbly and excited canvass.

I knocked on the door of a modest brick home. The door opened to reveal a middle-aged woman in gray scrubs. I began my canvass very professionally, hiding my Southern accent and maintaining good space and speaking slowly. She looked at my first three books, Live Life to the Fullest, Lessons of Love, and another one that I honestly can’t remember. She really liked them, and then invited me inside while she went to find her

checkbook.

When she came back, we got to talking.

“Yeah,” she said, after I thanked her for a glass of water and the break in air conditioning, “I almost didn’t

let you in. I never let people in my house. But you were different, so professional.”

Surprised doesn’t describe me! But the conversation went on.

“You know,” she cocked her head, “my sister and I don’t go to church, but we’re studying the Bible for ourselves. We don’t want anyone’s messed up opinion, but just the Bible.” “That’s awesome!” I bounced a bit.

“Did you know that The Bible Story Company has a study series?”

“Well, no, I didn’t,” she looked curious. I grinned and said, “I have samples. Here, look at these.” I handed her Health and Peace, The Great Controversy, and maybe Man of Peace (again, I don’t quite remem-ber). She had previously told me that she was a mental health nurse, so I told her that Health and Peace was about maintaining spiritual, physical, mental and emotional health. She was so excited to have these books to

study that she ended up buying all six of the books I’d shown her and even giving some extra in donations.

I also found out that her sister lived on the street behind the one she lived on, at a house I’d skipped. I had passed it by, seeing the owner (her sister) mowing the backyard and I hadn’t wanted to bother her. Come to find out, the woman I had met was on her way to work and would have been gone, had I stopped at her sister’s

house first.

God still works miracles today and He showed me, that canvassing workday, that His timing is always

perfect!
