Your Community needs you!
It’s that time of year again! The Arrowhead Beach Property Owners enters the election cycle for the 2018 fiscal year Board of Director positions and any resolutions that require membership approval.
There are three positions on the Board of directors up for election in April 2018. The three incumbent candidates are Chuck DeMoulin, Dana Nicholas and Colleen Nicholas. In addition, there is currently one vacancy that will be appointed by the Board of Directors. This appointment would be through April 2020. If you are interested in filling that vacancy, please submit a brief resume to the APOA office.
The Nominating Committee carries out one of the most important tasks on behalf of the Arrowhead Beach property owners. The Nominating Committee is responsible for ensuring the election process and timeline is followed with efficacy and transparency. It functions as an independent committee from the Board of Directors. It is a straight forward process and requires less than 10 hours of work between October and April.
The Nominating Committee is approved by the Board of Directors at the October 14, 2017 monthly business meeting. If you are interested in joining the Nominating Committee, please leave a message for Becky Yeackel at the APOA office 221-8331.
Nominating Committee Schedule and Duties:
November 11th, Present letter to APOA BOD with all nominating committee members.
Insure a request for candidates for election to the Board of Directors (BOD) is included in the November-December All Around Arrowhead Newsletter.
Collect all letters of interested candidates by January 3, 2018.
Use the list of property owners to determine all candidates are qualified, in good standing, to serve on the BOD.
Provide a slate of candidates to the BOD at the January 13th, 2018 meeting. This can be at least as many candidates as known openings.
Insure that a ballot is provided with the notice of the Annual Membership Meeting in the March/April AAA newsletter (mailed no later than February 27, 2018).
Establish procedure to ensure delivery of all ballots to the Nominating Committee. All ballots should be in the office no later than March 30, 2018
On April 7, 2018 the Nominating Committee will count and verify and record all valid ballots.
Report results at the Annual Membership meeting.

The Watch Report By Dana Nicholas Neighborhood Watch Committee Chairman
The Neighborhood Watch Committee sends out it’s deepest condolences to the family of Millie Bunn, one
of our Committee members, who passed this month. Neighborhood Watch would like to remind all of our residents and owners that bicycles, scooters or vehicles of any type are NOT allowed in the park. Also, only those 16 or over are allowed to operate golf carts on ALL roads within the subdivision. If you see something, say something. Call the Sheriff’s Office first. Then let the Arrowhead Beach main office know within 48 hours so that we can keep track of suspicious activity. Sheriff’s Office: 252-482-8484. Arrowhead Beach Office: 252-221-8331.
This summer, Leigh Anne Harris and her sister Amanda traveled to Florida to visit their grandmother, Patricia Lawing. On the way, they stopped at a popular tourist spot, South of The Border. In Florida they enjoyed going to the ocean, going to local restaurants and spending time with their grandmother.
David Peace, a longtime owner, did an amazing job on repairing benches by the beach in our park. He saw a need and volunteered at his own expense and did a wonderful job. We thank him for caring about our park and community.
Steamers last home game of the 2017 season was a nail biter for sure. In the 5th inning, the Steamers pulled ahead and won the game 9-5. Immediately following the game the crowd enjoyed spectacular fireworks. Thanks to the
Steamers for another great baseball season. We already look forward to next year’s season.
Dana Nicholas surprised his wife, Colleen, with a surprise birthday party. Her friends and family were all in on the secret and did a great job of keeping Colleen in the dark. Besides food catered by Nixon’s, friends contributed covered dishes as well. Colleen and Dana’s son Casey showed a touching slide show of Colleen with friends and family. Their daughter, Cathryn, made a surprise visit along with out-of-town friends Deborah and husband Barry.
We know some property owners are dealing with medical challenges at this time and wish them recovery and better health this coming fall.
Margaret Tolbert was recently in the hospital. Wishing her relief and full recovery.
Jimmie and Woody Knight, long time sponsors of the L.O.V.E. Group will be moving to Virginia for health reasons.
James Bigham is recovering from a recent surgery. Hope for a speedy recovery go out to him.
George Farrell is recovering from a fall and has
rejoined his wife Kathy at Edenton House Assisted Living.
Our friend, Kathy Sawyer recently passed. Kathy volunteered in the kitchen on Bingo nights and was a member of the L.O.V.E Group and volunteered at Bandon Chapel. She leaves behind a son & a daughter and several grandchildren. Our sympathy goes to her family and friends. Kathy’s kind spirit will be sorely missed.
Our condolences to the family and friends of Millie Bunn. Millie was an active member of the Edenton and Arrowhead communities and was a Neighborhood Watch volunteer. She will be missed very much by all who knew her.
Ken Peters passed in August after a long illness. Our sincerest sympathy to Jean and their three children.
Mabel Wilson Byrum of Winnebago Trail has passed, leaving behind her daughter, Ginelle Murphy.
As the Fall season reminds us of the coming holidays, let’s remember people in Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and across the world that face so many challenges.
Arrowhead Beach T-shirts are on sale at the
APOA office. We have a variety of colors and sizes.
Price is just $12.

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS
This month Community Highlights recognizes the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry located at 1370 Broad Street in Edenton.
According to the Sept. 13, 2017, Chowan Herald article by Rebecca Bunch entitled Food Pantry accepts challenge to raise $100K, the 4 Others Foundation, a family centered organization, has offered the Food Pantry an opportunity to qualify for a grant of $100,000 if the Pantry can raise a matching amount. The Food Pantry provides programs vital to children, families and seniors living in Chowan County: the Book Bag Buddies program,
providing students healthy food during times when the schools are closed; a summer food distribution program for low-income families; and special food packages for elderly residents.
The director of the Food Pantry, Roger Coleman, said they distribute 25,000 pounds of food to 600 families every month. Items that are needed are soups, canned meats (tuna or chicken), beans, peanut butter, pasta, canned vegetables.
Mr. Coleman said the effort to qualify for the matching funds will require an “extensive outreach effort.”
There are a number of Arrowhead Beach
residents that benefit from of the hard work of the director and about 60 volunteers that distribute food at the Broad Street location and around the county every month.
Let’s help the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry meet its 100 Grand Challenge goal by December 31st. Money donations can be dropped off at the Food Pantry at 1370 Broad Street on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8:30 and 11:30 am. Checks can be mailed to Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, PO BOX 643, Edenton, NC 27932. For more information, please call 482-2504, email [email protected] or visit www.edenton-chowanpantry.org.
