FC Going Postal – 40; FC Prisoners – 100; Have Faith in Heart – 90Michele Weidner got the first jump and put the Prisoners on the board. Shannon Gibson answered #2 and rookie Clay Stanton took questions 3, 5 and 6 to put Heart way out in front. Nina Darcie answered questions 7, 11 and 13A to bring the Prisoners within 10. Meanwhile Alicia Herrington picked up freebees on 10 and 12B, plus a 20-pointer on 14. Now the score was 40-80-90 with Nina and Clay frozen. Michele got the jump, answered correctly, and the Prisoners won the quiz.

Calvary Crucified – 70; Heart Self-Control – 40; Y Dreams of Peace – 20Calvary’s Sarah Scrivner froze without error on question 5. So with the entire Calvary team (Sarah) unable to jump, Dreams of Peace called a time-out. Undoubtedly, both Heart coaches told their teams to wait and jump only on questions they knew. No one jumped on question 6. Rachel Kozloski picked up #7 for Dreams of Peace. The next jump was Adrianna Wagner answering #11 for Self-Control. And after that? The next jump was nine questions later as Amanda Rezeppa answered #20 and earned second place for Self-Control.

FEPC Live to Die – 70; CP Mighty Power – 140; LW Believers – 20 The Mighty Davis brothers proved to be more Powerful than the competition. Rookies Omari and Jalen each scored 60 points plus had three errors between them by question 12. Nicholas Skelton took advantage of all three resulting toss-ups for 70 points for Live to Die. Question 13 went unanswered. Brian Junker, quizzing alone for LW Believers, came up short on question 14, allowing Jalen to correctly answer the toss-up. Brian correctly answered question 15 to end the quiz.

CM Glory Rockers – 140; CP 4ners & Aliens – 0; CP Flaming Arrows – 80 The Flaming Arrows shot out of the bow in a blaze of glory. Ade Davis scored 20 on 1, 3, and 8 with an error in between. Anthony Shaw scored on question 2. But then after two misses, the quiver ran out of arrows. Meanwhile, the Glory Rockers tried the “tortoise” route. Montreise Giles scored 40, Cassie Leidy scored 70, and Danielle Leidy scored 20, along with the 10 point bonus to lock up the win. The 4ners and Aliens just couldn’t get out of their seats.

CP Pressing On – 70; Y=Love – 10; HHBC Spare Me! – 150 Nailah Davis scored 70 points for Pressing On and Meagan Verheyen scored 10 for

Heart, but the rest of the quiz belonged to Huron Hills. John Williams scored 60 points, with rookie Caleb Springer and Nick Sponseller each adding 40 points (as well as the team bonus) for an impressive victory.

CP Mark My Words – 90; FC Purple Pandas – 0; FC Armor of God – 100Sarah Hoffman jumped first and by question 7 she had earned 70 points for Mark My Words. Rookie Rachel Weidner got in the quiz on question 4 and by question 12 she had earned a blue ribbon. Andrew Howell picked up 20 points on question 10 to give CP a total of 90. But the difference in the quiz came by Keaton Washburn correctly answering both questions 14 and 15 to give the victory to Armor of God.

Chicago 2008 Tournament.Berrien Lettuce Knot – 20 DBQ Don’t Exasperate Me – 30 DBQ Sisters & Soldier – 30

DBQ Don’t Exasperate Me was first to quiz into the Finals, and the long lay-off seemed to take its toll. Graham Wojtas, Tim Hoffman and Kathryn Rhine combined for four errors and a -10 score after question 11. All the errors didn’t leave much room for scoring, though. Berrien had 40 points through question 14, as did DBQ Sisters & Soldier, the latter scoring on a 20-pointer and a freebie for Adam Steinbrenner and a freebie for Alicia Herrington.

After a time-out, Kathryn scored a freebie and Tim knocked down 20, and going into question 19 it looked like anyone’s quiz. The score was 30-20-40.

Question 19 was anounced as a memory specialty question. There is no one better on those than Adam, and he showed his form in getting the quick jump and answering correctly. That gave his team a 30-point lead going into question 20.

Berrien had a shot at a tie if Aaron Bomer could get a third-person bonus, but it was not to be and Don’t Exasperate me took over second place on question 20A.DBQ Don’t Exasperate Me

1-2 Finish for DBQ in Varsity Finals

Why Should I Quiz Anyway? You hear all the time from people that you should quiz and go to Chicago, but why would you want to do that? Rookie and Chicago top quizzer Clay Stanton had this to say:How did you first get into Bible quizzing?Shannon Gibson told me about it last spring and it sounded really interesting from the start. What has been your highlight of the season?Chicago! During the season my highlight was finishing fourth, 20 points away from the finals! What was your favorite part of Chicago?Making new friends and getting to know new people. My favorite time was going up to the roof at midnight with about 10 others and singing worship songs with Nina Darcie’s guitar until 2 in the morning. It was a really great experience.Do you think you’ll want to do it again?Absolutely! What did you think of quizzing with all the different teams from other states?I was familiar with a lot of them from Great Lakes and the Cookie Tournament, but I thought it was really cool that a team came all the way from Belize.Did it help you at all in your life this past year? Definitely. Memorizing the Scripture certainly helped me learn it better than I ever would have reading it on my own. It was a great mix of material too; Galatians and the first part of Ephesians are filled with theology and an explanation of the gospel; the last part of Ephesians and Philippians have a lot of practical teachings for everyday life. Galatians helped me understand the whole reasoning behind the Old Covenant with the Jews and why God used it to lead us to Christ. The teachings in Ephesians and Philippians are pretty motivating and hold me to a higher standard than I did before; for example, “Do everything without complaining or arguing”!I’d also like to say, even if you’re not doing World this year, read Colossians and Philemon! God’s Word will never return void! So there you have it. Some great reasons to quiz. Do it!

Little League Standings (16 teams)

DBQ Standing Firm – 30 Berrien Red – 50 CHCA Captives – 70

This quiz was tighter than the final score may suggest. DBQ struggled with four errors, yet the score was 40-40-60 going into question 19. Sarah Kaake had 20, Kayla Kauzlarich another 20, and Dayo Davis a freebie, but team errors had also cost them 10 points. Berrien took question 19 to tie for first; could DBQ do the same on 20? It was not to be, as Berrien and DBQ errors allowed CHCA to close out their championship with a freebie on 20B.

DBQ Work Out – 140 DBQ Dead or Alive – 120 DBQ Undecided – 40

This quiz started as a horse race between Work Out and Dead or Alive. Nailah Davis was alive on question 1. Her brother and rival for this quiz, Ade Davis, worked out question 2. Back came Nailah on 3, and then John Williams worked 4 to tie it back up. Nailah took 5 and Sarah Hoffman 6 for a 40 point lead, but Jenna Galura responded on 7 for a team bonus and Ade’s next jump on 8 put Work Out in a 10-point lead. What a start!

After the two lead teams swapped errors, Undecided finally got on the board, Kristy Chirniausky taking the freebie on 11.

Nailah quizzed out on question 13. Sarah added 20 more for Dead or Alive on question 17A and the score was 90-120-20.

Work Out missed on question 18 to go down by 40, but the toss-up was grabbed by Rachel Weidner of Undecided.

Ade completed his quiz-out by taking questions 19 and 20 and bringing Work Out back into a tie. On the tie-breaker on question 21, Jenna got the jump and wrapped up the come-from-behind champion-ship for Work Out! DBQ UndecidedDBQ Dead or Alive
