Beyond the Chalk

Dean Phillips and Jeff Crews

Dean Phillips is an educator, a professional speaker, education consultant, and co-founder of Beyond The Chalk, a Montana based company, focusing on transforming education through teacher and student teaching and learning opportunities. He is a Google Certified Innovator, Google Certified Trainer and is a member of the Google Geo Teachers Advisory Team. Dean’s passion and enthusiasm for teaching encourages educators to be inspiring, engaging and relevant, while building meaningful relationships with students. Dean is an award-winning Montana educator and has experience in all levels of education and school leadership. He has been a classroom teacher, both elementary and high-school, an educational coach and mentor, a University Adjunct Professor, and a statewide Montana Technology Integration Specialist.

Jeff, co-founder of Beyond the Chalk, received his Doctorate from The University of Montana in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on science and technology. He spent the early part of his career teaching 7-8 grade science and also served as the district technology coordinator and a middle school science teacher, working to develop inquiry-based science into his teaching practice. Jeff’s experiences led him to The University of Montana where he served as the assistant director on the NASA EOS Education Project. He also served as the assistant director of science and technology projects within the Division of Educational Research. Jeff serves as adjunct faculty for Lesley University and for The University of Montana.

Always a crowd favorite at every educational conference where they present, these two ladies love to have fun, and it shows in every professional presentation they give or book they write. For them it's more than just a process, it's a calling. Their trainings take the fear out of integrating technology across the curriculum, meeting the needs of the beginner to the most advanced user. As former classroom teachers assigned to integrate technology at the campus and district levels, Janet and Joan understand the specific needs of educators.
