The Elementary bus routes will change this year due to East & West Elementary converting from K-1st and 2nd-3rd grade buildings to both having Kindergarten-3rd grade. Southeast Elementary will remain a 4th-5th grade building. The home school boundaries and busing areas have changed due to these new configurations. Because of these changes, bus routes will not be published in the August newsletter. The bus routes will be posted on the District web page and at each Elementary building’s main entrance the week of August 22nd. The Transportation and elementary school staff will also call or mail bus stop information to parents starting the week of August 22nd.

Parents are responsible for arrangements to have someone meet younger students (Kindergarten/1st grade) at PM bus stops. The student’s home address on file will be used for bus stops. Requests for a different bus pickup or drop off location must be approved by the Transportation Department. School of Choice students will not qualify for busing unless a daycare provider is within Kelloggsville’s school district boundaries.

Please call the Transportation Department at 532-1574 with transportation questions after August 22nd, 2016.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUS RUNS

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Kelloggsville Public Schools has adopted an Integrated Pest Management program. Inherent with this are the District’s efforts to reduce pesticide use as much as possible. While it may occasionally be necessary to apply a pesticide, this program does not rely on routine pesticide applications to resolve problems. We use various techniques such as habitat alteration, sanitation, mechanical means, exclusion, etc. to prevent pests from becoming a problem.

As required by Michigan law, you will receive advance notice of non-emergency application of a pesticide (insecticide, fungicide, or herbicide), other than bait or gel formulation, which is made to the school, school grounds, or buildings. This advance notice of a pesticide application will be given 48 hours before the application by the following two methods:

1) Posting at the primary entrances to your child’s school. The entrances that will be posted are the main entrance and those that have a sidewalk that leads directly to a parking lot.

2) Posting in the common area located by the main office of the school.

Please note that notification is not given for use of sanitizers, germicides, disinfectants or anti-microbial cleaners. In certain emergencies, such as an infestation of stinging insects, pesticides may be applied without prior notice to prevent injury to students, but you will be promptly notified following any such application, via the two posting methods identified (above).

You may review the school’s Integrated Pest Management program and records of any pesticide application upon request by contacting James Lafler, 616.532.1574 or [email protected].

Parents or guardians of children attending the school are also entitled to receive the advance notice of a pesticide application, other than a bait or gel formulation, by first class United States mail postmarked at least 3 days before the application, if they so request. If you would like to be notified by mail please contact Maintenance Department at the following number 616.532.1574. Please give the Department person or secretary, your name, mailing address and what school(s) your child or children attend and they will put your name on the advance notification by US Mail list.

Sincerely, James Lafler, Maint. Director, 616.532.1574 [email protected]

Student Harassment

Harassment of a student(s) by other students or any member of the staff is contrary to the Board of Education’s commitment to provide a physically and psychologically safe environ-ment in which to learn and may be a violation of federal or state law.

In addition to sexual harassment, which includes unwelcome sexual advances or any form of improper physical contact or sexual remarks, harassment shall also include any speech or action that creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive learning environment.

The Student Code of Conduct contains language prohibiting any form of harassment. It also provides a means for a student to report an incidence of harassing behavior from a fellow student, staff member, or a school visitor, in a way that avoids embarrassment and protects the confidentiality of the student.

All reports shall be investigated. Anyone found to have violated this policy and/or the Code of Conduct shall be subject to disciplinary action up to and including suspension or expulsion from the district.

uSE OF TOBAccO ON ScHOOl PREMISESThe Board of Education believes that the right of persons to use tobacco and non-tobacco nicotine prod-

to them and potentially damaging to their health, the Board prohibits the use of tobacco on District premises (owned or leased), in District vehicles, at all school sponsored events and in all school buildings owned and/or operated by the District.

For the purpose of this policy, “use of tobacco product” means any of the following: the carrying by a person of a lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, or other lighted smoking device; the inhaling or chewing of a to-bacco product; the placing of a tobacco product within a person’s mouth; and/or the smoking of electronic, “vapor,” or other substitute forms of cigarettes, clove cigarettes or other lighted smoking devices for burning tobacco or any other substance.
