We first learned of Hannah’s singing talent at an open mic night we attended in our community in Arizona. Hannah was only 10 years old. She wowed us and the crowd. Soon after, she was asked to sing The National Anthem to kick of the 4th of July events for over 300 people.

After moving from Arizona to Texas, Hannah started taking guitar lessons at age 11 from The Musicians Woodshed. It wasn’t long after she started that they realized she also had a singing voice. The last year and a half ,Hannah now 12, has grown so much musically. She has written several songs with more in the works, which are in the process of being recorded. She has performed at Woodshed Live, Woodshed Teen night, The Longhorn Village, a couple of carnivals, Progress Coffee in Lakeway, and The Nutty Brown Cafe. She has also done wedding receptions and is available for private parties. She won the Lake Travis Middle school talent show with her original song titled, “War” and came in second place in the Hill Country Golf and Guitar original song contest where she was competing against professional musicians.

Hannah is an exceptional talent at such a young age to be able to sing, play the guitar, and write good music. She is a hard worker and is very passionate about her music. We are very proud of her and look forward to what comes next for our Hannah.

Travel in style as Bill Sjoblom of SJO-PRO Tours organizes the whole day including picking us up at LAC (probably 7:30am); dropping us off for lunch at The Lumen boutique hotel just steps from SMU campus (probably 11:30am); dropping us off at the museum for a self-guided tour (probably 1pm). Then he picks us up (probably around 4pm); stops at Collin Street Bakery in Waco for a dinner snack. (probably 5:30pm); and drops us back at LAC (probably 8:30pm). The only walking would be inside the museum so it’s really a treat for everyone. Bill takes care of the details. COST: $157 payable to SJO-PRO Tours (includes comfy motorcoach with bathroom on board; lunch and museum entry fee). MICRO-MARATHON/FUN RUN AND WALK SLATED FOR SEPT. 22 AT HILL COUNTRY GALLERIA

Cheyanna’s Champions4Children Foundation Created to inspire Children with rare or undiagnosed conditions

Cheyanna’s Champions4Children Foundation will host its 2nd annual 2.62 mile micro-marathon fundraiser on Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. at the Hill Country Galleria. The event will recognize the ten children currently in the program and raise funds to support them and their families as they are navigating difficult times.

“We are thrilled to be able to help these children and their families by inspiring them with our efforts,” said Talaya Frazier, founder of Cheyanna’s Champions4Children. “We will have ten “cheer” stations -- one for each of the children. There will be a raffle and goodie bags for all of the finishers.”

The mission of the organization is to bring hope, help and inspiration to families of children suffering from rare or undiagnosed medical conditions. This charity matches high profile athletes as well as athletic teams with children who become their teammate and “honorary member.” These athletes race, practice and dedicate their season to this child of cc4c. This interaction provides the child with inspiring events to look forward to other than countless medical visits and the ability to attend and participate in team gatherings that would otherwise be impossible. This empowers the child to have vision of his/her recovery finish line as well as provides the athlete a reason BEYOND themselves to compete. These children would never have the opportunity to be part of such team and this partnership allows the dream to come true.

Ms. Frazier was inspired to start this foundation after a three year struggle to find an answer to her youngest daughter’s failure to thrive condition. This led to her running to save her daughter’s life and in turn lead to seven consecutive Boston marathons and the USA Half Ironman World Championship. The foundation is named in her daughter’s honor, Cheyanna who is now thriving.

A MAGICAL EVENING AT THE LEAGUE KITCHEN & TAVERN

By Joe VasquezOn July 1st, Harry Anderson and Turk Pipkin celebrated their

60th birthdays at The League Kitchen & Tavern in Lakeway. Harry, best known for his role as the judge in the hit sitcom, Night Court, ditched his black robe that evening to perform his magic act that combined illusions and comedy. It was truly a magical performance that brought laughter to all the guests that night.

Turk Pipkin who played co-host for the evening also showcased his comedic chops alongside Harry. And as the co-founder of The Nobelity Project, he and wife Christy, were a reminder on what the evening was truly about. The $250.00 ticket for the Big 6-0 Dinner with Harry and Turk sold out days before the event, which raised a total of $15,000 for Nobelity’s Kenya Schools Fund. With the funds raised, a much-needed classroom for kids in Kenya will now become a reality. The evening began with a cocktail hour featuring an original concoction by The League’s award-winning mixologist Brandon Turner. It was followed by a delectable five-course wine dinner prepared by The League’s young and energetic executive chef, Devan Gernert, who’s becoming well-known for his creative dish concepts such as the evening’s 2nd course, which featured Foie Gras PBJ. Each of the courses Chef Gernert showed why he is one of the hottest chefs in town. At 28 years old, his kitchen experience has already included working at popular celebrity hangout Nobu in Dallas and as a sous chef to celebrity chef, David Bull of Congress in Austin.

The evening’s attendees included Irish actor Gareth Maguire, husband of Dixie Chicks member Martie Maguire, and Stu Cook, bassist for the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band, Creedence Clearwater Revival, among other philanthropists and foodies.

It’s almost “Lights, Camera…ACTION!” for the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce gala fundraising event – the fourth annual Dancing with the Stars. The beautiful Starlight Terrace Ballroom at The OASIS is once again the venue for this year’s competition, which will be held on Sunday, October 6th at 6:00pm. As in years past, Lake Travis “Stars”, along with their professional partners, will face off on the dance floor and compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy.

The last three years this event was coordinated by the Library as a mechanism to raise funds for their new building. The leadership of the Library and Chamber collaborated and determined this was a volunteer intensive event in need of additional support. The two entities established an agreement for the Chamber to coordinate the efforts of the event and the Library to always be a permanent benefactor and receive 20% net proceeds.

Supporting Sponsor, Go Dance Studio, will join our local celebrities and bring the community a night full of entertainment! The dance studio will be opening a new location in Lakeway.

This year, Kimberly Brents, the Principal at Lake Travis High School, will dance with professional dancer, Matt Stewart from Go Dance Studio. Both are looking forward to taking 1st place this year in Dancing with the Stars.Also competing this year is Mike Meyer, president of Central Texas for Prosperity Bank and partner Theresa Lingren. Mike, the son of Waltermore and Bernadine, has dancing in his blood based upon his father’s reputation for smooth, effortless moves on the dance floor. Mike is excited to perform with his professional instructor, Theresa Lingren. Theresa lives in Lakeway with husband Scott and boasts significant experience in musical theatre and dance.

This exciting event is lucky to have Sherrie L. Colca dancing with partner Gavin West. She and boyfriend, Haythem Dawlett, enjoy supporting charities not only in the Lake Travis area, but throughout the Austin area such as LT Love, World for Children, Lakeway Police Association and Lake

Travis Education Foundation. She is very excited and proud to be supporting another great cause for the gorgeous Lake Travis area!

These celebrities join Casey Dennis, Lead Wedding Coordinator with DNA Events, and Go Dance professional, Darren Paul. Casey says “this experience has been

challenging and fun, Darren has been a joy to train with and his passion for dance is infectious!”

World of Tennis fitness instructor, Laura Battle, shines up her shoes to dance with Jim Jordan, Mortgage Loan Originator with Fairway Independent Mortgage. Twinkle Toes, Devin Monk, Communications Coordinator for the City of Lakeway, and professional partner Maranda Lampe will bring their best for the competition. Maranda choreographed one of last year’s Dancing with the Austin Stars couple. Maranda is currently a core company member with performance group Crash Alchemy. Go Dance professional, James Heath, will dance with Susan Zbranek, Director of Marketing atCapital Title. Returning champs, Kristin Holt with Zbranek & Holt Custom Homes, along with Randy Fergusonwill defend their coveted title with a dazzling performance!

Women’s Club of Greater Lakeway will host renowned food, garden and tequila expert Lucinda Hutson at the group’s first general meeting of the year on Sept. 23, at the Lakeway Resort and Spa. In her address, “Fiesta! With Lucinda Hutson,” she will present creative ideas for theme parties and special events. An El Paso native, Hutson is a nationally celebrated writer/lecturer and tequila aficionada, who often appears on HGTV and PBS programs. She has traveled in Mexico over three decades, absorbing its culture, learning its history and collecting dichos—food related proverbs. She also designs gardens, creates festive events and consults on recipes and menus. Hutson attended the University of Texas and studied cultural anthropology. As she traveled extensively and explored Mexico, locals freely shared their recipe collections. Since that time, Hutson has adapted and published those recipes, as well as her own. She became fascinated with growing herbs, not solely for medicinal use, but for cooking. Her first book, The Herb Garden Cookbook, was published in 1987 and remains in print today. The success of that work catapulted Hutson into a career as an author and speaker.

Her passionate interest in tequila—its stories and recipes—culminated in the 1995 book Tequila! Cooking With The Spirit of Mexico, now an out-of-print collector’s item. Its successor, !Viva Tequila! Cocktails, Cooking and Other Agave Adventures, was published this May by University of Texas Press.

“My latest book is a three-in-one compilation: a cookbook, a bar book and a book filled with everything you’d want to know about agave spirits and their traditions,” Hutson says. “In all my books, I strive to honor the people, culture, heritage and traditions of Mexico. Although I’ve been exploring these topics all my life, I’m still learning new things.”

“Lucinda’s new novel is peppered with personal anecdotes, along with colorful folk art from her collection and documentary photographs from three decades of travel through Mexico’s agave country. She was a pioneer when she first explored Mexico as a single woman. Since those days, her spontaneity and charm have inspired others to entertain and celebrate Mexico’s customs and holidays,” says Women’s Club First Vice President Kitty Lichty, who schedules speakers for the club’s monthly meetings.

Bembry for the group’s 30th anniversary year.

Lakeway Associates of Seton will lead off the group’s 30th anniversary year with a social and general meeting on Wed., Sept. 25, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the home of new member Joan Peterson. Representatives from Seton Shoal Creek Hospital and The Seton Fund will be on hand to provide a status report and answer members’ questions.

Area volunteers from Lakeway Associates raised a net $30,000 during the past fiscal year to support the hospital, which treats patients of all ages who experience serious emotional and substance-abuse difficulties.

“Lakeway residents who have mental health problems that require in-patient care are likely to be referred to Seton Shoal Creek. That’s why our efforts remain vital to our community as well as to Austin and Central Texas. Seton Shoal Creek is the only mental health facility of its kind in our area,” says Lakeway Associates incoming president Barbara Bembry.

In addition to Bembry, board members for 2013-2014 include Sally Barto, first vice president and Seton Celebration chair; Jean Hennagin and Billye Lynn Ratliff, Seton Tea co-chairs; past president Kim Nearburg, program chair and secretary/treasurer; Jackie Elliott, membership chair; Pat Evans, publicity chair.

Lakeway Associates was founded in 1983 by Lakeway residents Mary Kolb and Anna Grayum. Today’s organization has well over 100 members. Activities include socials and general meetings, a tour of the hospital, a fun cocktail party and an over-the-top tea.

“The generosity and involvement of our members, old and new, has made Lakeway Associates the area’s largest donor to Seton Shoal Creek Hospital,” says Bembry.

Ages vary at the Lakeway Big Band Bash, but everyone has a great time. The ballroom at the Lakeway Activity Center (105 Cross Creek, telephone. 512-261-1010) is the place to be to enjoy cool music in a cool place. Attendees dance and/or listen to some wonderful live big band music. This popular event is on the second Monday of each month, from 8 to 10 p.m. (the next one is on September 9).

This is a free event (donations to the band are encouraged). There is a large dance floor and plenty of tables. You may bring your own refreshments, if desired, as none are provided. There are no reservations—doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Kent Dugan’s 17-piece orchestra, The Republic of Texas Band, features well known singers (and Lakeway residents) David Cummings and Lisa Clark. This band consistently appeals to dancers of many generations. Expect to hear a wide variety of favorite tunes, mostly from the Sinatra era, with fresh arrangements.

Get your dancing shoes polished, dress up a bit (not formal), and come out to dance and listen to some really great music. Anyone who has attended will tell you this monthly event shows why living in Lakeway is so much fun.

Just when you thought the girls’ softball program had wound down for the Summer, activity at the Field of Dreams during June and July proved otherwise. The LTYA 10U All Stars softball team (the Thunderbirds) had a very impressive run during the 2 month-long season. Out of roughly 200 teams participating in PONY’s South Zone All Star tournaments, the Thunderbirds placed 7th overall at Nationals after winning 1st place in the Sectionals tournament, and 3rd in the Regionals tournament. A truly special accomplishment for an even more special group of girls and coaches.

BRINGING GOOGLE FIBER TO LAKE TRAVIS COMMUNITIESIn April, Google announced Austin would become the second

fiber city in the U.S. The company plans to have the first “fiberhood” connected to its ultra-fast broadband by mid-2014. Though few details are available on how the tech company will select the first neighborhood to get the gigabit-speed Internet and TV package, one thing is certain – neighborhoods and homeowner associations are a vital key to how the areas will be chosen.

Those neighborhoods or areas that have the most people signed up means they will probably be get fiber first. Kansas City was Google’s first fiber city and the company will likely follow their lead on how to choose the areas they serve in Austin. Google based their service on what they call “build by demand model.” Google picked the first

neighborhood solely based on which neighborhood had the highest rate of registrants on a similar site. One of the many traits of the Lake Travis communities is the number of small businesses and professionals who work from home. Ultra-fast broadband would be a plus for many who are not supported by large company broadband systems. Additionally, the Lake Travis communities would become more attractive for businesses and companies to make this area their home.

Steve Munisteri, Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, will be the featured speaker at the monthly meeting of the Lake Travis Republican Club, to be held Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Hills Country Club, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

Munisteri grew up in Houston, TX, and is a 39 year veteran of Republican politics in Texas and the United States as a conservative grassroots activist. He started his involvement in 1972 as a volunteer for Hank Grover, Richard Nixon and John Tower. He then went on to form a conservative club at Memorial High School in Houston, and in 1975, contacted then Harris County GOP Chairman Ray Barnhardt to become involved in the Ronald Reagan for President campaign and to become more involved in the local party. He went on to serve the party in numerous volunteer capacities, including working as a precinct chairman of two different precincts in Harris County, serving as delegate or alternate delegate to numerous state conventions, and serving on the State Republican Executive Committee for State District 17. He has experience in working in over 50 campaigns, in all aspects from blockwalking and phone banks, to sitting in on strategy sessions for national Presidential

campaigns. Steve also has a long history of involvement in the

conservative movement. In 1976, he was selected as state Vice Chairmen for Texas Young Americans for Freedom and served as state Chairmen from 1977 to 1980. In 1980, Munisteri founded Young Conservatives of Texas, a group which continues to produce the future generations of our conservative leaders and elected officials in college campuses across the state.

Mr. Munisteri attended Memorial High School in Houston, before graduating from the University of Texas

in Austin with a BBA in Finance with Honors. He also earned a J.D. from the University of Texas Law School. Following his election to the State Chairmanship at the 2010 Texas GOP Convention in Dallas, Mr. Munisteri obtained a second residence in Travis County and currently serves full-time as the State Party Chairmen at RPT headquarters in Austin.
