YES …….Spring is finally here, and in a week it will be Summer! Hopefully, everyone weathered the Winter gracefully! The purpose of this newsletter is to keep everyone informed on the exciting things we have done and continue to do in our program! The Exploratory program ended in October for Sophomores, and January for Freshman students. Students were permanently placed in their desired programs! We have twenty four Sophomores and six Freshman students. Skills USA - At the recent District Conference in North Adams in March, Grady Steinberg from Southwick-Granville-Tolland won the Gold medal in the Over-500 hour competition. In the Under-500 hour competition, Hailee Wheeler from Easthampton won the Gold medal, Monei Wilson from West Springfield won the Silver Medal, and Erika Couture from Agawam won the Bronze medal. Erika and Monei competed at the SkillsUSA State competition in Upton on Friday, April 26th, 2019. Guest Artists - On November 5th, Jan Simard demonstrated the application of curling and tinting false eye lashes for our Junior and Senior classes. Also, DeeDee Flebotte, who graduated in 2017, came and demonstrated Fantasy/Theatrical make-up applications for the Sophomore class in October. She also came in March to demonstrate Balyage hair coloring techniques for the senior class. A Redken Educator came to teach our Junior and Senior students about hair color theory. Off Campus Learning Experiences – Throughout the school year, the Sophomore students get numerous opportunities to get out into the community and visit the local beauty supply businesses in this area. They get their shopping ID cards and learn about the numerous varieties of hair and skin care products that are available to them as licensed Cosmetologists. Also, they learn the layouts of businesses and get first-hand insight to the “ins and outs” of the beauty establishments.
