In this Issue: - Rush Report - Fall 2013 Pledge Class - Social Events
Hello Delta Upsilon Alumni,
Welcome to our Fall 2013 issue of the Diamond News publication, your view into the events and achievements of the Georgia Tech chapter of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. A new year has commenced at Georgia Tech and this semester has kicked off to a busy pace with something happening almost every day of the week. The brothers are more energetic than ever and everyone is on board to do more this semester than has ever been done at DU before. In the last few weeks we managed Going Wet, Labor Day Lake Kegger, Great Fratsby Party, two tailgates and football victories, and the event list goes on. Our new pledge class has been hard at work as well, getting to know the brotherhood and beginning their pledge project. Philanthropy has already started this semester with another year of the brotherhood’s involvement at Hornet Hustle and with Team Buzz around the corner the brotherhood is ready to get involved in the community. As the semester continues we have a number of events planned, including date nights and brotherhood retreats, and of course homecoming will be even bigger than last year. We hope you enjoy reading this issue and catching on the latest chapter happenings and we look forward to seeing our alumni at this year’s homecoming banquet on November 1st.

Rush Report Esteemed Alumni,
It was another successful fall rush for Delta Upsilon at Georgia Tech. The addition of these fourteen great new pledges brings new energy and fresh ideas to an already flourishing chapter. Brothers worked diligently to represent DU well to potential members during rush. The efforts paid off! Also, a new form of summer recruitment contributed to the overall success of this rush: a scholarship for incoming freshmen.
The scholarship had 33 applicants. Interviews narrowed the field to 5 finalists. These finalists displayed the core values above and beyond others through their leadership involvement, community service, and dedication to their high school academics. The award winners were Hank Cohen, Tibor Gyorfi, and Rick Hong. We are proud to announce Rick Hong’s decision to be a part of our 2013 fall pledge class. He is the pledge class president as well. Tibor and Hank, although they both rushed DU and shared in our ideals, felt they were a better fit at other chapters on Tech’s campus. Although their choice to accept bids elsewhere is disappointing, they both display great appreciation and help improve our campus relations within their respective chapters. At least half the applicants chose to attend our fall rush for at least one evening. Also, many potential new members chose to rush DU because they received emails and other forms of marketing for the scholarship. Every incoming male freshman received an email in the summer encouraging them to apply for this scholarship.

Social Events
Hello DU Alums,
Our social calendar has been very full this semester with a number of events from registered parties to date nights. Below are some photos of the semester’s cultural development. The house survived Wet Friday after a mini pool collapse into the foyer and the brotherhood has had its’ fill of fun thus far, from Labor Day Lake Kegger to the Great Fratsby.

None of this success was possible without the full support of the Alumni Board, specifically Bob McKeeman. Bob made the opportunity possible for three awards because he matched the chapter’s donation and commitment to the scholarship in an effort to improve our summer recruitment efforts. His trust and guidance was immeasurable for its success in the first year. This is the first year the chapter’s summer recruitment efforts yielded results for our fall pledge class. There is excitement within the chapter for the great members the scholarship will attract in the future. The foundation is set, and the goal is 50 applicants for next year!
Fraternally,
Zach Slaney VP Recruitment
