2015 State Fair Projects

Life Skills are learned “by do-ing” in our program! 4-H County Project judging was held at the Johnson County Extension Office on July 1st, 2015! All those who received Blue ribbons during the 2014-2015 school event were sent letters inviting their participa-tion. A total of 66 County projects were compared to the Project Standard for catego-ries. 4-H projects receive rib-bons on the Danish system. Blue means it is an EXCEL-LENT representation of the

standard, Red is a GOOD representation and White is a FAIR representation. Projects are NOT judged 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but rather how closely they match the project stand-ard. This year 24 projects were chosen as EXCELLENT representations of standards and will be sent to the Ken-tucky State Fair. Opening day is August 20th. We wish the following 4-Hers good luck:

Woodwork– Zach Pelphrey and Zach Goodwin

Home Environment– Kylie LeMaster, Rebecca Wright, Allyson O’Brian and Lakin Ousley.

Trends - Ryssa Skaggs

Foods– Olivia Ross, Mia Thompson and Abbie Collins

Johnson County school club 4-H is up and running! 4-H is an organization of young people learning citi-zenship, leadership and life skills. We teach our youth hands on citizenship skills by allowing them to learn about government process-es such as voting to choose their leaders. They also choose to be positive citi-zens by giving back to their communities with service work. Leadership is prac-ticed by running their clubs and learning about parlia-mentary procedure. Life skills are learned in the project work they com-plete at home in areas such as; Electricity, Animal Sci-ence, Sewing, Cooking, Photography, Woodwork-ing, Needlework, and much more. Parents are encouraged to help their

young person and make this well spent family time. During the months of Au-gust and September, each elementary school in the County and City School systems will hold organiza-tional meetings. During these meetings teachers and leaders will be given officer nomination packets and club members will receive 4-H project order booklets. In mid September, elected club officers will attend trainings for their respec-tive offices of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Reporter. In October, schools will begin to have monthly, officer lead 4-H club meetings. For the Oc-tober agenda, clubs will gather ideas for club names and discuss choosing a com-munity service project. All 4-H clubs are encouraged

to perform community service projects in an effort to help teach our young people the value and im-portance of giving back to others in our community. The 4-H Slogan is “Learning by Doing” so, if you have a community ser-vice idea or need, please contact Dianna Reed at the Johnson County Extension Office 789-8108.
