Volume 71, Issue 5
November 2014
On Sunday, 10/26, a number of club
members participated in the field trip
to photograph elk in the Wichita
mountains arranged by Inge Vautrin,
club’s Director for field trips. Randy
Jones, another club member who
spends a significant amount of time in
the Wichita’s, assisted Inge by pro-
viding the leadership and park infor-
mation needed along the way.
Members met at the park lodge a cou-
ple of hours before dark as the Elk are
more active in the latter, cooler part
the day. The ride in the bus met all
expectations of being in the brush
creeping along climbing from hill to
hole. Randy provided access to the
protected areas not available to the
park visitors.

Frequent stops along the way pro-
vided many opportunities to photo-
graph the beautiful landscape. A
number of the stops were prompted
by sightings of elk in the distance,
longer lenses proved helpful. As you
would expect, the bus startled many
elk requiring a quick response for
photographs. Cont’d page 2 . . .

We were treated to the wonderful
sight of the sunset that with the
bright colors running from yellow
to a deep red glow.
Additional sightings of elk occurred
in the bus lights on the trip back to
the lodge. While being too dark
and quick for pictures, everyone
enjoyed the fun of the search and
spotting after the sunset. Having
enjoyed the outing, everyone found
their cars in the dark for the trip
home to discuss a fun day.
On my way out of the Wichita’s my
high emotion begin to fade a bit
when flashing red lights appeared in
the mirror. Having walked along-
side the car, the officer requested a
closer look at the drivers license he
noted in my hand. He inquired as to
what brought us to the park. I ex-
plained we spent the afternoon in
the park photographing Elk. "Oh,
Elk tours are fun". I relaxed a bit,
this failed to last long when he
asked to see a few of my great non-
existent photos.
He returned to the patrol car after
Jaci provided the car registration
while claiming she was being held
captive; it took forever for the offi-
cer to verify all information pro-
vided. I discovered rotating the
outside mirrors removes the blind-
ing spot lights of a police car sitting
behind you.
While returning the documents, "I
have given some thought to your
suggestion that the speed limit
should be 45, it will remain 35 in
the park as posted." Fortunately, he
just slapped my hand while wishing
us a safe trip home. The trip home
was slow at a cautious 55, particu-
larly after Jaci pointed out, "I told
you it was 35".
Inge promised an exciting trip, I am
sure it met everyone’s expectations;
I am still giving it some thought.
Randy Carr, arrived around noon to
help out for the rest of the day, Troy
Taylor was able to come by later in
the afternoon. Our associates Mary
Horn and Jack Delisle handled the
Metro Camera Club’s table for the
day. We received a number of inquir-
ies and will be following up with
additional club information.
At times, things were a bit slow, the
ladies took advantage of these to step
inside to check the sale items. Out-
Bedford invited the Oklahoma Cam-
era Club and the Metro Camera Club
to set up tables outside their doors on
Saturday, October 25, to participate
in Bedford’s 40 year anniversary
celebration. With short notice, a
number of our club members volun-
teered to greet visitors and provide
club information. Jaci Finch and
Wally Lee set up the table in the
morning, I shortly joined them once
they had everything arranged and in
place. Jan Lee, Inge Vautrin, and
side, Jack and I studied Newton’s
first law of motion; Jack hit the
“Handicapped” sign and we watched
as it vibrated until brought to a stop
by placement of a hand to absorb the
motion; having time, we watched as
it vibrated for several minutes.
The ladies demonstrated a similar law
of economics: ladies will shop until
acted upon by an outside force, this
force has become known as hus-
bands.
