Caring for you close to home
The The IINSIDE NSIDE VViewiew
EEEvery employee at Braxton County Memorial Hospital serves a purpose. As we go about our daily routines and duties, we often make an impact on someone, whether it be a fellow co-worker, patient or a visitor or perhaps even a group of individuals. We often somehow make a difference without even realizing we have done so. Each month at BCMH a committee meets to consider individuals who have been nominated and selects one of them to be named Artist of the Month and/or Employee of the Quarter. These individuals are nominated by someone because they have made a difference. As you see them going about their work day give them a word of congratulations for a job well done. Without the care and compassion of people like them BCMH would not be able stand behind the promise of “Caring for you close to home”
It is widely known with any organization,
the first impression is most important. That
is exactly why Debbie Hamrick, Registra-
tion Clerk, was chosen as the Artist of the
Month for October 2016. This description
was given in her nomination and is repeated by those who observe her. Ben
Vincent, Administrator, stated when
making this presentation, “she goes out of
her way to make the patient feel comforta-
ble…a good first impression for our hos-
pital.”
Living in a rural area, we may be the first healthcare experience for
some and it can be a scary place if you do not know what to expect.
Debbie is always willing to do whatever she can to help. She also is
an encourager to the staff as well. Debbie started her employment in
2009 working first in housekeeping, then transferring to Ward Clerk
and now works in Registration in the Business Office. She tackles
any project given to her and sets new goals for herself everyday. Deb-
bie and her husband Gene live at Frametown. They love to fish and
she especially loves swimming in the Elk River with her granddaugh-
ters, Aurora and Mackenzie.

Making a DifferenceMaking a Difference
Saving lives……really takes on a whole
new meaning some days. This happened
recently when a 26 week old baby was
delivered in an ambulance. Everyone was
on high alert when this infant entered the
Emergency Room. And everyone was
doing their job but one individual shined
that day and that is why Marvin Franklin,
Cardio-Pulmonary Services, is the Novem-
ber 2016 Artist of the Month. “Thank God
for Marvin Franklin, he did great with the
baby” was the comment coming from Dr.
Doug Given. The entire Emergency Room team working that day
echoed how instrumental he was. And it seems too, on any given day,
he can be found doing something “extra” for someone. That’s just the
way he is. When I asked Marvin to give me some information on
himself, he politely declined. He said he didn’t like that kind of
“stuff”. I looked at a kind man who feels like he was just doing his
job that day, and yes he was, but Thank God for Marvin Franklin.

Organization……..everyone has an idea of what that means to them. To some it is simply putting things in a fold-
er somewhere……to be fished out later. To some it takes on a whole new meaning and such was the case with
Chelsea Jones, Ward Clerk, Emergency Room, our 3rd Quarter, Employee of the Quarter 2016 recipient. Life in
the Emergency Room can become quite hectic. Organization is very important. Chelsea saw the need and orga-
nized the filing cabinet for patients and pending reports file. This has made life so much simpler for staff to navi-
gate. For those who know Chelsea, this is nothing new. She also goes the extra mile in all she does. She is will-
ing to help any way she can to make it easier for all involved. Even on days those “stressful” days, she is courte-
ous and efficient. Chelsea and her fiancé, Jedediah are planning a September wedding. They live at Napier with
their 7 furry children (4 dogs & 3 cats). She is a self-described “outside” girl and likes to garden and spend time
with family and friends. Article Provided by: Terry Hoover
