Staff NewsCongratulations and well wishes are extended to Terri Fallin, director of development in the Office of Institutional Advancement, who will assume the Vice President for Institutional Advancement role with the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska, in mid-March. Terri’s last day at Cottey will be March 5.

Terri began her career at Cottey in 2006, as plans started on the recently completed A Defining Moment campaign. As a Cottey alumna, Terri had an undeniable platform to communicate to others the personal and professional impact a Cottey experience has on women’s lives. She is a successful fundraiser and friend maker. She was a constant and very well-known presence at campus events. She also influenced many social media opportunities that nurtured relationships and secured funds for the College.

We extend our congratulations to Terri and her family as they move to Omaha, and into this deserved opportunity in a leadership role at the College of Saint Mary. We will miss her!

Cottey’s third professionally managed Phonathon ended Friday night, January 31, a great way to “officially” close A Defining Moment: The Campaign for Cottey College. Thanks to faculty and staff

for graciously making other meeting arrangements while the Main Hall Conference was in use. Throughout the week, 25 paid student callers reached out to 7,400 alumnae and friends. Alumnae

were asked to support the Alumnae Challenge goal for the Fine Arts Instructional Building; friends were asked to support the Cottey College Annual Fund. More

than 3,500 calls were successfully completed. Of those, 552 responded with gifts totaling just under $40,000, for an average phonathon gift of $109.

While broad-based outreach efforts like this are not without a few glitches, support for continuing this program was apparent. One 1973 alumna from California

commented, “I receive many flyers about efforts to raise money, and the calls from students are what really inspire me to give.”

Thank you to all the staff and students who helped make this effort a success!

Spring Phonathon a Success!

Faculty NewsMany thanks are expressed for the acts of care and concern extended towards Professor Susan Callahan, associate professor of mathematics, who has been at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, this past week. She was recently moved to Medicalodges in Pittsburg, Kansas, located at 2520 S. Rouse, which is near to Via Christi hospital so she can readily go to the hospital for treatments. You can reach the Medicalodges at (620) 231-0300.

Tobacco-Free Campus: July 2014

In the interest of reducing harm from tobacco use and secondhand smoke, providing an environment that encourages persons to be tobacco-free, reducing long-term health-care costs, and promoting a campus culture of wellness, Cottey College is establishing a tobacco-free policy, beginning July 1, 2014.

Employees interested in tobacco cessation plans should refer to the BlueCrossBlueShield online portal for several options, or speak to Betsy McReynolds in Human Resources, regarding a potential onsite class. General questions about the new tobacco policy should be directed to the Office of Student Life, ext. 2126.
