Membership Development In our regular meeting on September 01, 2017 President
Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra welcomed the keynote speaker, our
own senior most Past President Rtn. B.L. Ramsisaria, who
is our „Bhishma Pitamah‟, and needs no introduction but to
complete the formality, PP Rtn. Dr. V.J.S Vohra was given
this pleasant task. Popularly known as „BLR‟, PP Ramsisaria
PP B.L. Ramsisaria
is a proud recipient of Rotary
International‟s highest award,
„Service Above Self‟, and all his
family members are PHFs. An
engineer by profession, he is the
4th President of our club for the
Rotary year 1980-81. During his
tenure our club adopted Lepers
Colony, Sector 47, Chandigarh,
which till date is our club‟s one
of the prestigious projects. BLR
was the District Secretary in the Rotary year 2007-08,
with then District Governor Shaju Peter. Whether it is the
annual budget, club decorum, Rotary procedures or any
avenue of service, BLR is always there to guide our club.
PP Ramsisaria gave an interesting and a very informative
presentation on Membership Development. He said, “It has
three equally important elements: Bring in new quality
members, Retain current members and Organize new clubs.”
The qualification of a new Rotarian shall be an adult person
who demonstrates good character, integrity, and leadership.
They should possess good reputation within their business or
profession, and community, and is willing to serve in their
community and / or around the world, and must be able to
pay statutory dues.
He also discussed the principle of classification and how
Rotary can have effective clubs, for which there are four
elements; Sustain and Grow Membership, Implement
Successful Service Projects, Support The Rotary Foundation
and Develop Club Leaders for Beyond Club Level.
RI loses an average of 10% each year. Therefore, we need
more members which means Improved fellowship, More and
new ideas for service, More hands for service, Keeps Rotary
young and vibrant, Provides for future Club leadership, More
members keep the cost of Rotary down, and more members
more Foundation fund raising more Global and or District
Grants. PP Ramsisaria quoted Robert Schuller, “We‟re either
Expandable or Expendable.”
Our goal should be to induct 2-3 new members every 6
months. There should be a net gain of five members at year
end with no attrition during the year. BLR also discussed how
to propose a new member and be his mentor.
President Dr. Rita Kalra gives floral welcome to DG T.K. Ruby
and Secretary Jeeten Bhambri to AG PP Rakesh Mittal. The DG
announced Dr. Rita as the Best President of the District for July
2017, and acknowledged our club as one the best in the District
The Proven Formula to meet membership challenge is „E+3R‟,
that is, Extend - Recruit, Retain and Revitalize. Members are
the life blood of a Rotary Club. Our club‟s most valued asset is
its members. Nurture and grow your membership!
Pre-induction Orientation for new members and spouse should
be held. Also there is a need for post induction orientation to
explain the Club history and projects, five avenues of service,
Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation. Make
Induction ceremony with spouse significant. Provide Four
Way Test, Object of Rotary, new member Information kit,
certificate of membership, pin, badge, banner and publications.
All Rotarians who have sponsored a new member to join
his/her club are eligible for recognition as shown below.
PP Ramsisaria concluded his presentation advicing, “Light up
the Club with new members.”
Speaking on the subject, PP Indrajeet Sengupta attributed poor
attendance in the meetings due to lack of time, and even
money. He strongly advocated that Rotary should have hybrid
clubs, and meet over the net. It is very cheap, about $ 145 a
year for any number of meetings, even the board meeting. He
said, “We should start thinking in terms of hybrid club. We
can meet twice a month in a hotel, and twice a month on net.”
The DG hands over the microloan cheques of Rs. 30000 each to
Kulwinder Kaur and Jai Kishan, introduced by PP Prem Anand.

In a mail received on 29 August 2017 by President Dr. Rita Kalra from PRIP Raja Saboo, he stated, “I read your account about
the manner in which you and your team at the government hospital took care of the victims of the rampage in Panchkula. You truly
deserved the accolades by the Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Gauri Parashar Joshi. She herself is a very brave lady who faced the
situation despite the political interference very courageously. I am particularly proud that you have been a Rotarian, now a Club
President and truly you showed the spirit of Rotary of "Service Above Self". You have very rightly mentioned that you made the
difference. My salutation to you personally and for your commitment to Rotary and your profession.” He added, “Rotary has been
my teacher and a Guru. I do hope that Rotary also is seen by the Rotarians as an uplifting resource.” PRIP Raja Saboo had sent the
above mail from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia where he is with the medical mission.

situation of handling 300 emergencies, 90 admissions, 155 Medico legal reports and 32
postmortems.

following, Rotary Chandigarh Midtown stepped in to serve humanity to provide daily
needs in form of water, food, clothing, soap, brush and pastes, mattress, ice slabs for
mortuary etc. Even food for para military and police force on duty was organized with
help of Mansa Devi trust. Our presence was appreciated by District administration and
for very petty to big requirements, and it was on Rotary that system was relying upon.
