KDHE Volunteer Testing Program

Volunteer testing is intended to …

Enable testing access, particularly in harder-to-serve rural areas of Kansas and/or underserved communities 1

Fill testing gaps where other testing models are not sustainable 2

Build community trust and drive testing volume by leveraging organization relationships within communities 3

9

Select community partners with deep roots in the community to leverage established trust to drive testing uptake

Guiding principles to inform volunteer testing approach

Examine impact of historically higher risk communities (e.g., rural, elderly, communities of colors) and ensure inclusion in testing coverage if viable for identified volunteer partners

Maintain strict adherence to all CDC guidelines to ensure safety of volunteers and patients at all times

Ensure timely notification of testing results to deliver greatest impact of infection awareness (<48 hours)

Partner with organizations to customize testing approach to each organization to best utilize volunteer base and maximize impact in local community

There are four options to utilize volunteer base to deliver testing, to be discussed with each Testing Site Lead to determine optimal approach

Description Hold open hours for community members to pick up tests kits from organization and self-administer and ship tests back to lab (return label included in kit)

Offer consistent weekly offering for community members to receive volunteer-assisted COVID testing on organization premises

Organize one-off testing events for identified community partners (e.g., school program or local business) to obtain testing at church facilities

Set of volunteers to service site with disadvantaged or at risk community members (e.g., senior care center, meat packing plant) to bring testing directly into the community

Effort estimation
