Possible contamination must not be magnetic. These pumps are leakproof because of the magnetic coupling. They can be used in installations with and without initial pressure. Especially to be emphasised is their application in the Chemical industry: Heating of stirrers, reaction tanks, drying installations, polymerisation plants, installations for handling of viscous media, production of synthetics and synthetic fibres. Rubber and plastics industry: Heating of calenders, fusion kettles, moulding presses, spraying apparatus, manufacture of adhesive PVC tapes. Food industry: Heating of baking ovens and fish frying ovens, distillation of fatty acids and glycerine, fat softening installations, apparatus for French fried potatoes, handling of vegetable oils, production of dried milk. Paper industry, laundries: Calender rolls, manufacture of corrugated board, heating of washing machines, mangles and laundry driers. DESIGN Pumps with magnetic couplings of the series ZTK are horizontal, compact, single-stage volute casing pumps with branch dimensions and assignment as per DIN EN 22858 (chemical standard) or EN 733 (DIN 24255). in back pull-out construction. On the basis of the compact close coupled design has been created a pumping unit which can be installed easily. All IEC standard motors of the construction type IM B 35 are applicable. The design permits the operation of the pump without any additional coupling. Thus the alignment, a source of trouble, can be omitted. In many cases even the base plate can be omitted. The pump design allows the assembly or disassembly of the pump with very simple tools. The back pull-out construction allows the volute casing to remain in the plant. CONSTRUCTION Casing pressure: Optionally PN 16 or PN 25 Please note: Casing pressure = zero head + inlet pressure Test pressure 24 bar or 37,5 bar Position of the branches: Suction branch arranged axially, discharge branch radially upwards. APPLICATION

ZTK pumps with magnetic couplings are developed for the applicationat high medium temperatures and are suitable for all industrial liquidsnot usually containing solid matters. Possible contamination must notbe magnetic. These pumps are leakproof because of the magneticcoupling. They can be used in installations with and without initialpressure.Especially to be emphasised is their application in the

Chemical industry:Heating of stirrers, reaction tanks, drying installations,polymerisation plants, installations for handling of viscous media,production of synthetics and synthetic fibres.

DESIGN

Pumps with magnetic couplings of the series ZTK are horizontal,compact, single-stage volute casing pumps with branch dimensionsand assignment as per DIN EN 22858 (chemical standard) or EN 733(DIN 24255). in back pull-out construction. Casing sealing:

The casing sealing is made by a flat gasket of graphite with an intermediate layer of stainless steel. Designation of this construction type: 2

Drive:

By commercial three-phase A.C. motors, construction type IM B35, isolation class F. The assignment is depending on the power consumption of thehydraulics, taking into consideration the density and viscosity of the pumping medium. For the motor selection the eddy current losses are to be addedto the pump performance.Motors controlled by frequency converters are admissible. The motors and magnetic couplings indicated in the delivery programme are selected for amains frequency of max. 50 Hz and are applicable for watery liquids. In case of differing speeds other magnetic dipole moments are necessary for thecouplings. It is recommendable to check the selection with Sterling SIHI.

Position:

Usually the pump units are installed horizontally. The operation with vertically installed pump units is possible, but should be made only in consultationwith SIHI because of the special instructions for starting-up, support and thermal load of the drive motor.

General remarks:

The following pump series with magnetic couplings, using the same insert units, are available:

Series ZLK volute casing pump with branch arrangement as per DIN 24255 / EN 733

Series ZLI inline volute casing pump

Curve of the temperature decrease:

Function:

ZTK pumps with magnetic coupling for the temperature range up to300 °C are equipped with a metal isolation shroud and open stool; forthe temperature range up to 400 °C they are equipped with heatbarrier, ceramic isolation shroud and closed stool. Both types do notrequire any external cooling.

1. Design - up to 300 °C:The open stool guarantees that the temperature admissible at themagnetic coupling and at the drive motor will not be exceeded.From the course of temperature shown in the above figures maybe learned that the temperature at the motor bearing only is abt. 80°C.

2. Design - up to 400 °CThe heat barrier prevents that the hot medium circulates aroundthe inner magnet. The inner magnet operates in the so called"dead-end-service". This is made possible by application of theelectrically nonconductive ceramic isolation shroud which avoidsthe generation of additional heat by eddy currents. Conditional onthe construction the magnetic chamber of this type cannot becleaned by flushing of the pump. The course of the temperaturefrom 400 °C down to 220 °C describes the temperature along thepump shaft. The curve from 220 °C to 80 °C the course oftemperature at the outer magnet.

Both types are suitable to handle liquids which do not usually containsolid matters. As standard equipment the pumps have a screen filterelement behind the impeller which filters out of the partial flow coarse,non-adhesive dirt particles. If permanently contaminated media orpolymerising liquids are handled the application of monitored free flowfilters is recommended.

The partial flow of the type applicable up to 400 °C only serves tolubricate the ceramic sleeve bearings.In the magnetic chamber the partial flow of the type applicable up to300 °C, divides into the lubricating flow for the bearings and thecooling flow for the magnetic coupling. In the magnetic chamber

bores in the inner magnet secure an intensive flow through the gaptoward the isolation shroud. Through separate bores the partial flow isreturned to that side where the impeller is relieved.

Bearings:

The SiC bearings are clamped on the shaft between impeller and innermagnet. The material combination secures that the clamping power ismaintained, also in case of high temperatures. The stationary bearinginsert is screwed to the casing cover and thus easily exchangeable.Alternatively bearings coated with adamantine carbon are available.Hereby the coefficients of friction during dry operation are considerablyreduced and thus danger to the pump can be prevented. However, thiscoating is applicable up to 250 °C only.

Safety:

The magnetic bell is directly fixed on the motor shaft. The load on thebearings resulting from this is relatively slight and therefore a damageto the bearings very improbable. In order to protect the isolation shroudagainst damages by rotating parts, internally or externally, a stationaryseat is installed in the stool and at the bearing insert. The distancefrom the rotors is smaller than that of the rotors from the isolationshroud.The narrow gap between shaft and heat barrier of the type applicableup to 400 °C serves as throttle of the partial flow and besides of thatalso as protection against butting and prevents the butting of the innermagnet against the isolation shroud in case of failure of the sleevebearings.In order to obtain double leakproofness of the pump types applicableup to 400 °C the application of fan-less motors which withstandflooding, is possible. Then the sealed stool chamber serves to controlthe function of the isolation shroud.

The pump has to be run with a motor load detector. It protects themachine against dry operation and operation beyond the range of thecharacteristic curves.
