PRESIDENT Stephanie Justine R. Espallardo

Describe the position you are running for as a medical specialty. I would relate the position of being the MSC President as to being a specialist in InfectiousDiseases (ID). Doctors refer patients to ID specialists out of these main reasons: an infection isdifficult to diagnose, patient does not respond to treatment, and treating illnesses becomes apart of a patient’s overall care, for example, a patient with HIV/AIDS. An ID specialist, as itsname implies, encompasses the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of infections. Like an ID specialist, a president serves as the foundation being turned into when issuesconcerning students and co-council members, no matter how big or small or how complex todeal with, arise. The president ensures proper control of circumstances by knowing theappropriate management to student concerns, as that of an ID specialist to diseases, so that nofurther spread or damage might ensue. Balance between work and play is being well-exhibitedby an ID specialist in order to be in control of the disease and not the other way around, as thatof a president to the responsibilities he or she is liable into. Further, the president looks into the overall wellness and welfare of UERM student body, comparable to how an ID specialist ensures a patient’s overall care; and finally, makes sure thatevery concern contributing to the whole, is well-managed

VICE PRESIDENT (INTERNALS) Amanda M. Palileo

Describe the position you are running for as a medical specialty. I like to think that the Internal Vice President works like an endocrinologist. The studentbody with the different student organizations, fraternities, and sororities can be likened to thehuman body’s endocrine system, which involves many different organs that allow it to carry outdifferent functions and maintain homeostasis. The IVP makes sure that the internal affairs of thestudent body are running smoothly by coordinating the activities of the different studentorganizations, and mediating in cases where there is conflict.

VICE PRESIDENT (EXTERNALS) Paulino Nathaniel H. Zamesa III

Describe the position you are running for as a medical specialty. I see the tasks and responsibilities of the External Vice President comparable to that of an Endocrinologist.Hormones take a huge role in the regulation of bodily functions to maintain homeostasis and any aberration may bedetrimental. This is where the endocrinologist comes in. In patients with no manifestations prevention is of utmost prioritybut if there are already they are tasked to keep it at a minimum and ultimately to minimize effects if not to cure the diseaseprocess brought about by hormonal dysfunction. As an endocrinologist it is important to remember the basic ways theendocrine system regulates. Through autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine means. This is where a comparison may beoptimally made. As an EVP you must realize that micromanaging and macromanaging come hand-in-hand. In order tofunction well as a leader you must keep yourself in check at all times, an autocrine regulaton. As part of the MedicalStudent Council you must work well with the other members, if done properly it will be of great help, a paracrine type ofregulation. Most importantly for the EVP, being the official representation of the UERMMMCI College of Medicine tothe APMC, it is important to carry the school’s name with utmost pride and caution, an endocrine function.

SECRETARY Audrey Marie U. Chua

Describe the position you are running for as a medical specialty. Doctor of Surgery as medical specialty would be my choice to describe my position for running as secretary. Being a surgeon is one of the most prestigious medical specialties in this field and it requires ability in time, effort, knowledge and skills to become the best of the best. A surgeon focuses on treating major parts of the organ system as well as other diseases requiring care and attention. And also, a surgeon is a physician with high degree of specialty who treats the patients to become the person with better future and quality of life. A secretary, like surgeons, must be able to deal with almost any emergency with utmost care and concentration. The secretary serves the council and the students with careful planning and detailed information to ensure proper presentation and to show an organized well-planned event. This position makes sure that nothing gets left behind, like a doctor of surgery, making sure that everything falls into place and be where it needs to be. Serving the student body as well as the council gives one prestige in becoming a better and responsible person. This will serve as a step to become a better service to the community and an exercise to becoming a 5 star surgeon

TREASURER Michelle H. Cua

Page 14: Voter's Primer

Describe the position you are running for as a medical specialty. As the treasurer, I shall be in charged of allotting the budget for the planned events, taking account of the expenses and incomes of the council and lastly, making sure that the student council’s funds are safe; with that said, I would compare being a treasurer to being an orthopedic surgeon. Dealing with bones and joints, one must be physically and emotionally strong to be able toset joints back into their places as well as endure the grueling hours in the operating room meticulously fixing torn connective tissues and broken bones. Handling money, I must be physically strong so I may defend the students’ fund when someone attempts to steal it, and more importantly, emotionally strong so I may set a just and fair budget. If anyone tries to “get on my good side” just so that they could get a little more, rest assured I would not even think twice about giving in. Money is a crucial factor in living our daily lives, at the same time a very sensitive topic due to its importance. Our bones act the same way as well, they are crucial in how we live because of how it is one of the main components in movement, and despite its hard consistency,it is quite sensitive on the inside, which shows a balance of opposing characteristics. And just likebeing a treasurer and an orthopedic surgeon, you must be able to strike a balance between being strong & firm with being meticulous & gentle.

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER Dale Kingsley G. Sy

Page 16: Voter's Primer

Describe the position you are running for as a medical specialty. The Public Relations Officer’s job is similar to an Emergency Medicine doctor. The PRO is always on call as a liaison within and outside UERM. Whenever there are important announcements, the PRO needs to act fast to disseminate the information to the UERM community. The PRO’s job does not end in the campus; he also has duties to the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges-Student Network, National Capital Region. Whenever the APMC calls a meeting or has a project, the PRO has to be available for them. The public relations officer should also be on call for the students to address their concerns
