MARCH Meeting Greetings Members of the Chicago Society for Coatings Technology! Our next meeting will be held on Monday, March 10 th at the University of Purdue - Calumet campus in Hammond, IN. Once again, we will offer an outstanding speaker along with raffle prizes for our members!! The topic of our next meeting will be: “High Performance Organic and Inorganic Zinc-Free Corrosion Inhibitors” By Jessica J. Olmos, Chemist - New Product Development Halox Corrosion Inhibitors TECHNICAL ABSTRACT: The chemical industry is facing strict pressure to decrease human and environmental exposure to chemicals. Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) implemented massive regulations that affected all chemical companies around the world in 2006. In response to this pressure, the coatings industry is being directed toward water based and 100% solids coatings. Included in this approach to achieving more environmentally friendly formulations are the reduction of heavy metal based anti-corrosive pigments. This paper highlights the chemistry of these new environmentally friendly and heavy metal free organic corrosion inhibitors. SPEAKER BIO: Jessica Olmos earned her Bachelor’s in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Purdue University in 2009. SPEAKER BIO:
Jessica Olmos earned her Bachelor’s in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Purdue University in 2009. Her academic career focused on environmental chemical science. She obtained a grant to do collaborative research in the biochemical field. In 2011, she joined Halox as a chemist in the R&D department. She is responsible for the laboratory research in new product developments and technical service projects for formulation enhancements. She recently co-authored a technical paper published by the Asian Pacific Coatings Journal in January 2012.
