Pilot at JMU
• Started after several faculty training sessions in late 2010/early 2011
• Running in parallel with MDID2
• Weekly data migration using MDID3 migration tool
• Bug fixes and feature improvements based on automated and user feedback
Student projects
• Students have greater access to features in MDID3
• Faculty asked students to create new slideshows using existing collection content and uploading their own images
• About 180 students participated individually or collaborated in groups
MDID as a Platform
• MDID3 serves as a platform for building web-based multimedia applications
• Stores, manages and delivers data records and media files
• Web developers author custom user interfaces
Delivering Content: Embed Code
• MDID3 provides HTML code for certain viewers that can be copied and pasted into any web site
• Protected content remains protected using basic authentication
Digital Media Hub
• MDID serves as JMU’s digital media hub, supporting many disciplines using different media types in different ways
• Store once, deliver everywhere
• Flexible cataloging – from “just in time” to fully curated
• Modular storage, discovery and delivery mechanisms
• Content management tools
