Traffic police are ex-posed to a high amount of pollution every day and suf-fer from v a r i o u s infections related to breathing or respira-tory tract. If we take the ex-ample of Pune city; the ratio of
traffic police for public is one policeman per 1lakh of people.
As a result, the number
of police on the streets is inadequate to handle the huge amount of traffic.
The pollution becomes
unbearable and there-fore, they suffer from various respiratory dis-
eases. To prove
it, a survey was carried out in Feb-ruary 2018 by the final year stu-dents of mi-crobiology of Garware College, the results of which are presented in the graph.

Are there enough toi-lets for women in urbanas well as rural areas? Isthe hygiene maintained? Are the ladies taking pre-cautions of sanitary con-ditions? What kind ofinfections affects them? These questions were an-swered at a programe byDr. Himangi Pataskar atMaharashtra SahityaPar-ishad on Tuesday 22ndOctober 2018. “This is asensitiveissueandhasnotbeendiscussedquiteopen-ly before,” said PataskartoBhushanKattakar, whowas interviewing her.According to Pataskar,
the rural areas lack toiletstherebymakingitdifficult
forthewomentogooutinthe daylight. They eithergoin thedarkordon’tgo
at all. They feel that theonly logical solution forthis is to stop drinkingwater. This leads tomanyinfections and health is-sues like dehydration, kidney stones, pain andburning sensations andeven gas or constipation.Another angle is that
women even get rapedand molested. “I facedthis situation while work-
ing in Sasoonhospital,” saidPataskar.Com-pared to ruralareas; urbanareas do havetoiletsbut theyare unclean, lack waterfacility andelectricity too. This topic
was also touched by Ra-jagauri Jadhav, a 13 yearold rural resident whereher tone and level of un-derstanding of the sub-ject stunned the audience. The programme endedwith a questionnaire ses-sion followed by po-ems written on the same.
