FADE FROM BLACK EXT. THE GREENWOOD COTTAGE. We are introduced to a pair of emaciated wet roses, one higher than the other. There are withered leaves around. Snow is slightly falling down. The camera slightly pans away and captures, in a straight angle, the entire front of the cottage. The camera begins to dolly towards the front window. It reaches close to the window. Through the window, we can see a dim light outlining the room. Straight ahead, we see a fire place. FADE TO INT. THE GREENWOOD COTTAGE The opposite side, from within the room, at a halt, through the camera we see the exterior of the window. The harsh weather. The camera begins to pan away towards the right. Through this panning, it undergoes many fades- The time on a ledge clock, Pictures of Young Isabelle, a man, young Justin. The camera then stops at a distant angle capturing the rear of Isabella, who stands in the kitchen making tea. CUT TO INT. KITCHEN Isabelle’s firm feminine hands are shown getting the tea ready. CUT TO INT. PATH TO THE LIVING ROOM Isabella walks with the teacups on the tray. CUT TO INT. LIVING ROOM. She sees a lamp glowing on the elevated mantelpiece. She walks towards it and obliterates the flame. CUT TO EXT. ROAD FROM BRAMPTON. The camera gracefully follows the highway. MALCOLM (V.O) Most men have always wondered if it is a woman that is the root of their success. Most women have certainly believed that every man’s success is instigated in his mother’s heart. I, Malcolm De Silva, am considered a great TV personality. All my fans around wonder one thing- who do I consider my woman-hero. My heroine. Well, although I never got to know my dead parents, I do have a heroine. FADE TO

Page 24: VSD Writer Portfolio

Malcolm is walking towards the camera from faraway. MALCOLM (V.O) It was the winter of 1955 that I visited the unheard Greenwood Cottage. FADE TO EXT. GREENWOOD PORCH Malcolm knocks on the door. He waits. As he draws breath, a tiny cloud emerges from his mouth. Isabella answers the door. MALCOLM Mrs. Greenwood? Malcolm De Silva, Brampton Highlight! I had an appointment with you today. ISABELLE Oh! Yes. Please come in. MALCOLM Thank you. As Malcolm enters the cottage, he views how large it looks from the inside compared to the outside. MALCOLM It’s awfully cold outside. ISABELLE Is it? Not to worry. The tea is ready. MALCOLM Oh, thank you very much. As they walk towards the living room, FADE TO INT. LIVING ROOM Malcolms takes the last sip from his teacup and puts it on the central table. MALCOLM This cottage- ISABELLE I’ll take your luggage. (She takes his luggage from him and heads toward the bedroom) MALCOLM Oh, thank you. This cottage of yours isn’t as small as it looks from outside. ISABELLE (She comes out of the room) Things are not always as they appear, Mr. De Silva. MALCOLM

Page 25: VSD Writer Portfolio

That’s true. They are not. ISABELLE How was the tea? MALCOLM Although it was no more than a teaspoon of sugar, it was sweeter than any other that I have ever tasted. ISABELLE smiles. MALCOLM (V.O) Me giving that compliment to an older woman did seem flirtatious. However, I’ll have to admit, she was too beautiful for her age. ISABELLE How old are you Mr. De Silva? MALCOLM Twenty-six. ISABELLE Splendid! I must say you have marched the mile of success at such a young age. MALCOLM So did you. A woman who becomes an attorney at the young age of twenty-four and retires after 15 years is worth calling successful. ISABELLE Do you study everyone’s life before interviewing him or her? MALCOLM Only those who are worth studying. ISABELLE Worth studying? Every person in the world is worth studying, Mr. De Silva. They are all studied, but I guess not all of them are ever understood. MALCOLM Well, that is what I am really here for. Understanding you. ISABELLE Me, or the incident?

TERRENCE gets on the bus. BUS DRIVER Don’t you have any manners? How dare you let an old woman wait to get on the bus, don’t you know she is not as young as she used to be? TERRENCE I’m sorry, I’ve just been having a really bad day. OLD WOMAN That’s no excuse. TERRENCE It would be if you went through what I did in this past hour. The OLD WOMAN takes a seat. TERRENCE looks around for a place to sit, but it is nowhere to be found. He gives the BUS DRIVER his ten-ride ticket, and begins walking towards the back of the bus. BUS DRIVER Excuse me sir. TERRENCE mutters to himself Your ten ride ticket is invalid at the moment. It seems like you’ve used it all up. You will have to pay the standard fee of 4.25 to get to York. TERRENCE is disheartened but nevertheless he pays the BUS DRIVER because he obviously has no choice. The bus moves erratically forward and causes TERRENCE to fall. TERRENCE breaks his fall by grabbing on to the seat in front of him. TERRENCE’S hand rests on something soft and warm, a completely bewildered women’s breast. Before TERRENCE realizes what he has done and is able to apologize he gets slapped in the face, and receives a nasty look from the woman. TERRENCE apologizes silently, and finds the last seat on the bus, the one at the very back, and completely in the middle. He takes his seat, and sighs; he has finally

Page 27: VSD Writer Portfolio

achieved some peace and quiet after his horrible day. TERRENCE’S cellular phone rings. TERRENCE Hello? TERRENCE’S MOTHER is on the phone and she begins to yell at him. MOTHER Terrence, where the hell have you been? I’ve been calling you all morning! You left your keys on the kitchen table again. Sometimes I wonder, just what it is that you do and how you help people, you can’t even help yourself. You’re a pathetic excuse for a man, and I want you out in a week. TERRENCE What are you talking about mom? I don’t even live with you. I’m just staying with you while I’m down here. MOTHER That’s not the point. You can’t expect me to do all the work. I pity the woman that you marry. TERRENCE Mom, I am married. MOTHER I know that. But that’s not the point. TERRENCE Then what is your point mom? MOTHER I don’t know son. I’m just having a really bad day, that’s all. TERRENCE That makes 2 of us. You know the rules. Step 1. MOTHER Relax. I know, I know. That stuff really works. Thank you son, you know you’re not so bad after all. I love you.

Page 28: VSD Writer Portfolio

TERRENCE I love you too mom. BYE! TERRENCE hangs up the phone, looks at it and turns it off. The bus slams on its brakes and the cellular phone goes flying through the air. It lands one seat in front of him, behind a sleeping man’s buttocks. The man sleeps and does not notice. TERRENCE tries to think of a way of getting his phone without waking the man up. TERRENCE slides his hand behind the seat in front of him, in hopes of retrieving his phone. As he grabs his phone, the MAN slides his body back and sits on TERRENCE’S hand. MAN And just what do you think you are doing mister? TERRENCE I’m just trying to get my phone. It kinda fell behind you when the bus stopped. MAN You’re just using an excuse to grab my ass aren’t you? Well don’t worry hunny buns, I like that. TERRENCE yanks his hand out as fast as possible. This one’s got fire. What’s your name sexy? TERRENCE Terrence, and I don’t know what you’re thinking, but I was just trying to get my phone back. MAN You don’t know how many times I’ve heard that one. You know how many men have tried that on me. Oh I’m sorry, I was just trying to get my phone, or my wallet, or my pen. It’s such a turn on though. You shouldn’t be afraid to express yourself. TERRENCE I’m married you freak. MAN I pity you. You can always join me if you change your mind. What’s your husband’s name?

Page 29: VSD Writer Portfolio

TERRENCE My wife’s [emphasizing] name is Karen. And I’m not gay. Or happy, or queer, or free, or whatever you want to call yourself. MAN I used to deny it. Accepting it is the true way to stay happy. MAN rips out a strip of paper. And begins writing a phone number Now if you ever need counseling or ever feel like talking about your true feelings. Hands Terrence the paper. You can call me. I’ll be waiting [emphasizing]. See you around Terrence the Tiger… MAN growls a gay growl at Terrence.!!

Woe to the tale of Princess Arkady. The being who spoke her mind ever since she was a baby.

Flowers meant nothing to her, no roses, no daisies. The passion of one man is what drove her life crazy.

At 16, she was the most beautiful princess in all the land,

Everyday, suitors would come, and each one left with contempt in their hands, Pearls, jewels, strength, not even the purest of sands,

for Princess Arkady wanted the handsomest man.

Her words left holes in the hearts of men, Always telling the ugly ones that they could only be friends,

If Arkady only knew the way her story would end, She would have watched what she said, in case she would offend.

Her voice was blessed from the gods in heaven,

She dreamt of fine princes 24/7, The gods granted her wish, 10 years after 11,

But not before she incurred the wrath of the God named Revan.

- - - The Cause - - -

One day, Arkady was approached as she passed through the street, What she saw was a creature more hideous than she,

She cried out to the crowd, so that all of them could see, I complimented her and she rewarded me appropriately.

Her stunt left me broken, the mobs new channel of pain,

I tried to keep strong, I tried to keep sane, But the crowd would not relent, Arkady’s voice driving their canes,

I ascended in that moment, crying out to the rain.

5 years had passed, and Arkady was the same, I sought answers for my dilemma, but who was to blame?

When a beast goes mad, is it the tamer or the tamed? Was I in a just world, or was justice in vain?

Justice came but not in the form that I wanted,

All I asked, was for her to be nocturnally haunted, For each soul that she crushed, from the beauty that she flaunted,

Arkady was to pay, and my conscience was forever daunted.

- - - The Effect - - -

Arkady danced with Revan in the annual ball,

She didn’t know it was him, he said he was Saul, She spat in his face and wasn’t appalled,

This spurred the moment that began Arkady’s fall.

Revan was lord of pain, and was simply testing Arkady, Upon hearing my call, he reacted quite plainly,

An eye for an eye, for each word spoken profanely, As I looked at her, I couldn’t help but smile truly and gaily.

Revan’s plan was simple, let Arkady’s dream come true,

The master of pain, was master of pleasure too, Give her the prince, let her taste the beauty stew,

And when the iron had scorched the judgement would brew.

Y’nori had come, from out of nowhere it seemed, Irony was in the air, but not in Arkady’s dreams,

He stood right in front of her, and marriage was deemed, All she could see was the beauty that gleamed.

- - - The Closure - - -

The first night was the last but Arkady never knew She kept his attention, undressing from head to shoe. Though he was a demi-god and his face turned blue. She was lost in Ynori’s caress as I watched for proof.

All I wanted was her, and her to want me.

I did not want her to suffer, just to be happy. But all she did was spit and laugh, while I burned in the city.

So Arkady must burn too, just not as swiftly.

Revan came to see me and asked if continue he should I was beginning to question myself, if what I asked was good.

Revan grants all wishes, and with my word, he would. So I closed my eyes and imagined Arkady with a star-lit hood.

Ynori’s lips had finally reached Arkady.

She saw his true form, speechless as a sleeping baby. Try to scream, but no one can hear you my lady.

The song that you sing will remain, maybe...

- - - The End - - -

I loved you Arkady, how could you make me do this? I just wanted it to be you and I, sealed with one kiss...

But now you are nothing, you don’t even exist. And I am alone now, what point did I miss?

Woe to Revan, master of pain and disguise.

Who turns wishes and truth into misery and lies. Beware for he is everywhere, and has soldiers and spies.

He does not differentiate between the dragons and the flies.

And you were simply a fly, passionate Noissap. What you saw was not Arkady, but simply a test you did not pass.

And what became of you was worse as time passed. You held onto your anger until there was no one left to blast.

You see it was your lesson to learn and Arkady was the pawn.

Your anger destroyed as your love was flayed at dawn. You chose to hang onto rage, and look what has spawned.

You are alone and the beautiful Arkady is gone...
