    Metso Minerals’ technology and experience in designing,applying and servicing rock-on-rock crushers in a variety ofapplications has enabled production of autogenous VSIcrushers which meet the customers need for producingincreasing quantities of material to the required specification.

    The Nordberg Barmac rock-on-rock crusher uses the patentedcascade feed system to introduce a second stream of material,in a controlled quantity, into the crushing chamber turbulence,causing a supercharging of particle population within the

    Cascade Feature

    The Barmac B-Series VSI crusher uses a patented hydracascadefeed system to introduce a second stream of material, in acontrolled quantity, into the crushing chamber turbulence,causing a supercharging of particle population within thechamber, thereby improving the energy transfer between theparticles.

    Hydracascade offers external hydraulic adjustment of thecascade ratio while the crusher is operating, for accurate controlof product specification and grading. Adjustment can be handoperated or be fully integrated into automated plant systems.

    Hydracascade provides greater flexibility and control of thecrusher discharge product – flexibility that can accommodatechanges in feed specification and control that provides totalmanagement of product quality and fines content.

    Mineral processing

    Quarrying

    of the Barmac where correct crusher operation has its mostsignificant influence – the final product quality and plantenergy consumption. ACR monitors and controls crusher loadand cascade levels. Internal control procedures ensure thatafter initial calibration and setting of the crusher and feeder,ACR will continuously adjust the crusher to maintain optimalconditions.

    Roof Lifter (RL) Option

    The roof lifter has been developed to provide quick and easyaccess to the internal workings of the Barmac. This allows forrapid rotor and wear part changes and minimises down timewhile maximising availability. The simple and reliable designof the roof lifter means only one person is required foroperation, while a crane is not needed at all.

    Automatic Lubrication Option

    The Barmac automatic lubrication system ensures an accuratemetered flow of lubricant to the crusher bearing cartridgethrough the use of an electric motor driven grease pump anddivider valves. Three divider valves are factory set to supplythe correct quantity of grease to the crusher bearing cartridge.

    VSI Operational Control System (VOCS) Option

    The VOCS has been designed to provide the Barmac operatorwith constantly updated information on the operatingcondition of the vital mechanical components of theequipment. Three areas are monitored: Vibration caused by anunbalanced rotor, bearing cartridge running temperature, andmotor winding temperature.

    Automatic Crusher Regulation (ACR) Option

    ACR is the tool for maximising crusher capacity andeffectiveness. ACR ensures consistent and efficient operation

    The Barmac combines high velocity impact crushing with highpressure attrition grinding to produce high volumes of cubicallyshaped product. Continuous control of the product shape andgradation provides a product which meets the size distributionrequired.

    Superior particle shape and consistent gradation are a directresult of the rock-on-rock principle of the VSI crusher. Impact,grinding and abrading within the crusher simulates the actionof nature, eroding the particles to a cubical shape.

    The Barmac reduces power requirements and increases millcapacity by reducing the top size and increasing the finenessof the mill feed. Mill liner life is increased by providing a finermill feed, allowing the use of smaller mill balls to achieve therequired size reduction.
