More than one million Bay Area residents live within five miles of their workplace, an ideal distance for bicycling. According to the 2013 American Community Survey, over 62,000 Bay Area residents use a bicycle as their primary means of getting to work every day. Bike to Work Day is the perfect day to try it. Combining cycling with transit is the perfect solution for longer trips or commutes. More than 90 Energizer Stations in Santa Clara County and 40 stations in San Mateo County will give people on bikes a chance to stop and get a snack, a tote bag, goodies, and a few words of encouragement. VTA will host an energizer station at the Great Mall Transit Center in Milpitas, from 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Visit vta.org for bike-friendly information and to plan your trip. Whether it’s a trip to the mall, movie theater, or to get to a summer job or class, VTA’s Summer Youth Pass is the ideal transportation solution. This year we are slashing prices. Youth riders will receive unlimited rides on VTA buses and light rail trains from June to August for a highly discounted price of $60. That’s a savings of $30 compared to the cost of three monthly passes! A smooth ride isn’t the only benefit to this pass, youth riders can expect to enjoy some cool summer perks and special offers from our partners. Summer Youth Pass sales begin May 16.
