CO2 from biogas upgrading utilized in SNG production

Boost the SNG production byutilising the captured CO2 inmethanation synthesis withH2 from electrolysis

VTT is developing demo-project of thispower-to-X concept

2050: zero emissionenergy system has to bein place if global warmingis limited to +2°C.

2030: only emission freetechnologies can be takenin use.

2015: solar and windbecome the least costoptions in large part of theWorld.

Power-to-gas optimization

The intermittent nature of renewable energycauses fluctuations in energy market prices andenergy balancing market prices.

VTT has developed a software platform thatenables dynamic gas production and utilizesenergy market instruments in order to producegas at an affordable price. Simultaneously, thesolution helps to balance the energy grid.Electrical energy is used to transform water andair into useful gases like hydrogen, oxygen andnitrogen. Hydrogen can be further refined inintegrated processes into substitute natural gas, biofuel and other power-to-X products.

Cost efficient production of gases like hydrogen, oxygenor nitrogen.Efficient use of intermittent renewable energy.Increased stability of the energy grid.

Projects: Neo-Carbon Energy (Tekes),SmartP2G2 (EIT Digital), R3Water (FP7)
