very first edition of our e-magazine,
where we have gathered some of the
highlights from the dealerships this
season. These include our service plans
starting from as little as £17.45 per
month and a look at how we use new
technology to find the best deals for
you. We also look at the opportunities
available through the Motability
scheme and introduce some of our
team, both in the dealerships and our
call centre who are always happy to
help you. Read on to discover what

Road Tax
With the world going
digital, we saw the end of
the road for the good old
paper tax discs which
became obsolete on
October 1st 2014.
What does it mean for you?
As of October 1st, you will no
longer have to fix a paper tax
disc to your windscreen.
Instead you will be asked to
pay your vehicle tax online via
the DVLA website or at your
local post office.
If your road tax has still got
months left to run, it will still
be valid and once it has
expired, you can then renew it
using your 16 digit reference
number from your vehicle tax
renewal reminder (V11 or
V85/1) or 11 digit reference
number from your log book
(V5C).
Vehicle tax is no longer
transferred with a vehicle. So
if you are buying a car, you
will need to get it taxed
before you can use it. And if
you are selling your car, you
will automatically get a
refund from the DVLA for
the months left on the
vehicle tax. Find out more on

Motability was set up as a charity in
1978 in order to aid people with
special needs obtain the finance
required to get transport, whether that
be scooters, cars with special
requirements or powered wheelchairs.
Customers who choose to sign up to the
scheme can receive great benefits
which can help ease day-to-day life
greatly.
The Motability scheme not only allows
you to choose a new car every three
years but also offers a “worry-free
package”.
This is a fully comprehensive
insurance policy. There is full
breakdown assistance if the worst
should happen, and road tax is
renewed annually for you.
Motability is a scheme which enables people with special needs
to use their government funding to lease new cars. Since the
scheme was set up in 1978, Motability has helped over 3 million
people get mobile with a new vehicle.

in a position to drive, they can
nominate two named drivers who
can drive the car for them.
Servicing and maintenance is also a
worry-free solution. All the car tyres,
windows and windscreen
replacements are included in the
scheme, so there is no concern about
paying for the upkeep of the car.

Set up in 2009, our dedicated contact centre has 16 professionals
who excel at customer care.
CALL CENTRE
As you may know, The John Clark Motor Group and The Specialist Cars
Volkswagen have a dedicated call centre. Operating from Dunfermline,
the contact centre has a workforce of 16 staff who are trained to the
highest standard in customer care. This training ensures that all staff are
efficient and are able to provide our customers with the quality care
needed for their vehicles.
The staff conduct research and customise calls to ensure the deals and
services offered are tailored to each individual customer. Working
closely with the Service Departments allows the team to make use of the
relevant campaigns and make customers aware of current offers. This
also helps to ensure the aftersales process exceeds the Manufacturer standards.
Our call centre is there for you
from 9am-7pm every Monday-
Friday and makes an average of
10,000 outgoing calls per month.
Jane is the Group Contact Centre Manager
and has been with the company for over
five years.
Jane has been all over the world helping
set up contact centres for prestige brands.
Her role here began with managing the
development of the centre which has now
grown from a solo operation to a dynamic
department.
On a normal working day Jane ensures that
the call centre is running to the highest
possible standard and delivers the ultimate customer experience.
Carly is an Outbound Service Advisor at
Specialist Cars Volkswagen Aberdeen and
has been with the company for 30 months.
On a normal working day Carly contacts
customers and gives them advice on what
servicing may be needed for their cars.
Ensuring the customer’s car is booked in at
a convenient time is something that gives
her a sense of great satisfaction as this
makes the process much easier for the
customer and a happy customer is a happy
Carly.

At Specialist Cars Volkswagen and the John Clark Motor Group we understand
that correct tyre maintenance is critical for your safety, no matter what type of
vehicle you have. Carrying out simple checks can help to prolong the life of your
tyres, reduce your fuel bills and even help towards cutting CO2 emissions.
Winter weather can result in hazardous driving conditions, therefore all drivers,
irrespective of whether they fit winter tyres or not, should carry out the following
checks to ensure maximum safety.
Tread depth should be checked to ensure it is above the legal minimum of 1.6mm
across the central ¾ of the tyre, around its entire circumference.
Tyre pressure should be checked at least once a month or before a long journey.
This should be checked against the manufacturer’s recommended levels and when
the tyres are cold (i.e. travelled less than 2 miles).
When checking your tyre pressure, give the rest of each tyre a thorough visual
inspection for any signs of damage. Look for cuts, scratches and bulges and
remove any embedded objects.

One of our team, Keith Charles,
is the Senior Driver within
Specialist Cars Volkswagen Fife
and has been with us since we
started trading in Dunfermline in
2009. Keith was presented with
a “Make the Difference” award
at our 2014 annual Group
Conference in St. Andrews. Here
is Keith’s story:
In order to provide our customers with the highest level of
service, the John Clark Motor Group and Specialist Cars
Volkswagen have to perform like a well oiled machine.
“The day I heard I was nominated, I was in Edinburgh picking a car up for
our bodyshop in Kirkcaldy when my Aftersales Manager, Lee Johnstone,
called asking how long I would be and that Paul Lanni wanted a word.
You can imagine the half an hour drive back from Edinburgh when I heard
my General Manager wanted to speak to me....
INSPIRE ME
When I arrived back, I sat in front
of Paul not knowing what to
expect, but it was all good news,
that I had been nominated for an
award and that myself and my
partner Helen would be invited to
the Annual John Clark conference
at The Old Course Hotel in St
Andrews. I was speechless as Paul
told me the reasons I had been
nominated and also who had
voted for me. This was very
humbling.
We arrived on the day at around
4pm and were told whilst checking-
in, that we had been upgraded to a
suite rather than a standard room.
The room was huge and had doors
opening onto the Old Course itself
where the famous Swilcan Bridge
sat just over to the right. I can
remember saying to Helen that I
thought I must be in with a good
chance of winning this award!
INSPIRE ME
We were sat at our table next to
Chris and Clare Clark, Paul and
Denise Lanni and Tom and John, two
of my managers from Kirkcaldy along
with their wives. I can remember
having a sudden loss of appetite as
the evening headed towards the
awards ceremony.
When my category “Make the
Difference” came up on the screen, I
think it was the second from last
award, it was so surreal seeing my
name up there on the big screen.
After the names disappeared and my
name was left, it was even more
surreal. I headed up and received
kind words from Chris and a firm
handshake from John Clark himself. It
all started to sink in that I had won. I
returned to my table to find Helen
with tears in her eyes and a lot of
congratulations not only from the
company at my table, but from
people I didn't know, but obviously
knew me.
Myself and Helen would like to take
this opportunity to thank everyone
who made us feel very special and
spoilt.
This was a memorable experience
and one that I will definitely not
forget. The award certainly has
pride of place within my home.”
Along with “Make the Difference”,
there was “Customer Excellence”,
“Sales Team of the Year”, “Accounts
Team of the Year” and “Used Cars
Sales Team” awards presented to
the staff in recognition of their
efforts. The two latter ones went to Specialist Cars Volkswagen.
The day seemed to go by very
quick, whether it was just my nerves
or the evening’s itinerary, but we
made it down to dinner on time.
Helen looked beautiful in her dress,
although if I heard “Do I look
okay?" once, I heard it a million
times.
