Our time at Washington continues to fly by! We look forward to visiting with all of you at parent/teacher conferences this month. Please set up a time to meet with your student’s teachers. Teachers will be sharing results of the STAR universal screener; these scores indicate student skill and knowledge performance in reading and math. Missoula County Public Schools will have an early release (11:35 am) on March 8th and no school on March 9th. Spring break will begin on the 26th, and school will resume on April 2nd. Track season will begin on April 10th after break. Track is offered to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Shortly after spring break, students will start Smarter Balanced testing. You can review the Smarter Balanced Assessment at http:// www.smarterbalanced.org/assessments/practice-and-training-tests/. As we try to make sure students master standards they need to move into the next grade level, it is important that they are at school each day and on time. Attendance plays a big role in student success! Thank you for sending us wonderful students! PTA News

The WMS PTA is proud to support the WMS Math Counts team, which placed 1st at the city competition out of 13

teams! The PTA voted to cover their room and board at the state competition in Butte.

We are pleased to report on our growing relationship with Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ann Bohman of Immanuel's

Mission Focus team has been regularly attending PTA meetings throughout this past year. Immanuel is interested in

how they can serve youth and families, particularly those experiencing homelessness or who are in significant

transition. They have made valuable contributions to the WMS community, providing power backpacks before the

beginning of the school year, and will cover the cost of busses (via a Thrivent grant) to transport 8th graders to the

Missoula Food Bank for a service project. We look forward to continuing work with Immanuel to help alleviate some

of the stress of youth in need at WMS.

Stay tuned to several opportunities to raise money to support WMS students: all you have to do is eat at Noodles and

Co. at Southgate Mall and they will donate 50% of your dinner ticket to our PTA! Be watching for dates via Connect

Five emails and texts.

Parent-teacher conferences are around the corner - March 7th and 8th! Please watch for a sign up to bring salads

and desserts to go along with PTA-provided pizza for our hard-working staff on March 7th.

Dear students, parents, and staff of WMS

Thank you for your great participation in the Pennies for the Pit fundraiser! That fundraiser brought in $653.11!! We

have raised almost $2200 towards our $2,700 goal to purchase and install the GaGa Ball Pit. If you would like to

make a donation to help us reach our goal, please make a check payable to WMS PTA (with GaGa Ball Pit in the

memo line).

We are excited to install the GaGa Ball Pit sometime this spring.

- Girl Scout Troop 3612

PS. Along with the many generous donations from local businesses and WMS parents, we have truly appreciated the

support of the staff and from groups of students who have been holding their own fundraisers to raise money for this

effort. Thank you - Sonja Skovlin, leader
