SEPTEMBER 20, 2020 W E L C O M E Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The Mission of our parish is to serve our neighbors with Jesus, to pray in faith with Jesus, and to teach as His Church with Jesus, so “that all may have more abundant life.” (John 10:10). The Word of God, the Sacraments, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church are the instruments and standards of this work of evangelization and faith formation.

FROM THE OGLE OFFICE Dear Friends and Parishioners:

As we struggle and straggle through this annus horribilis of 2020, we do catch glimpses of hope and consolation from time to time, both individually and parochially. Individually most of us are becoming accustomed to the new normal of masks, social distancing and sanitizing everything in sight. Parochially, we begin to experience some steps of recovery in parish life, as permitted by the Diocese, including:

•Monday, June 29: public daily Mass resumed

•Sunday, July 5: public Sunday Mass resumed

•Saturday July 11: First Penance for youth

•Saturday, July 18: First Holy Communion for youth

•Friday, July 24: RCIA sacraments

•Friday, July 31: Adult Confirmation with Pastor

• Saturday, August 8: Youth Confirmation with Bishop Cisneros As for Sunday Mass, your cooperation with our safety measures has been outstanding in terms of masks, sanitizing and

distancing. I am especially grateful to the volunteers who help clean benches after Mass. St Martha is proud of you! We could do better with pre-registration at the English Masses. Right now we’re not really near the 90-seat limit in the upper

church, but when we do exceed it, we’d like to facilitate everyone’s safety by knowing in advance who would need to go downstairs to see the televised Mass from upstairs (and of course receive Holy Communion).

As for attendance, if we consider our high average attendance is approximately 1500 people, then our attendance figures look like the graph on the previous page.

I hope we can grow closer to our usual attendance, using the lower church as well, as time goes by. Please let your neighbors and friends know that daily mass has resumed and that all safety measures are being taken.

In addition, the week of October 5 we will resume parish meetings with largely the same restrictions (masks, 25% capacity of the meeting room, sanitizing, no food, no children). Religious education classes resume September 30 completely online until at least January, except for Confirmation classes which will resume in person with safety measures as of October 1. Let us strive to restore our parish bonds of communion and friendship in person (with safety) as well as remotely.

Msgr. Sean G. Ogle

DE LA OFICINA DEL MONS. OGLE Queridos Amigos y Feligreses:

Mons. Sean G. Ogle

In this remarkable 10-part video series, Scripture scholar and theologian Michael Patrick Barber provides a thorough, deeply Catholic, and deeply biblical, answer. Based on the best-selling book Salvation: What Every Catholic Should Know this video series is inspiring, engaging, and accessible.
