SONGS OF PRAISE Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee, though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see. Only thou art holy, there is none beside thee; perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, Holy, Holy; merciful and mighty; God in three persons blessed Trinity! How Great is Our God

The splendor of the King, clothed in majesty; let all the earth rejoice, let all the earth rejoice. He wraps himself in light, and darkness tries to hide; and trembles at his voice, trembles at his voice.

How great is our God. Sing with me how great is our God; and all will see how great, how great is our God.

And age to age he stands and time is in his hands; beginning and the end, beginning and the end. The Godhead, three in one- Father, Spirit, Son; the Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb.

You’re the name above all names, worthy of all praise. My heart will sing how great is our God.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: how great thou art, how great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: how great thou art, how great thou art!

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above, I have a strong, a perfect plea, a great High Priest whose name is “Love,” who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on his hands, my name is written on his heart; I know that while in heav’n he stands no tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see him there who made an end to all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free; for God, the Just, is satisfied to look on him and pardon me.

Behold him there, the Risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless Righteousness, the great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace! One with himself, I cannot die; my soul is purchased by his blood; my life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God. BENEDICTION

SERMON John Tomberlin

COMMUNION Highly Exalted

You were despised. You were rejected, Lord. Those who passed by even averted their gaze from your sight. Such was the suffering you bore for us.

Led like a lamb, lamb to the slaughter, you spoke not a word, but chose to be silent Lord, you did no wrong, nor was deceitfulness found in you. Yet by your wounds our salvation has come. Yet by your suffering our freedom is won.

For God has highly exalted your name. He has enthroned you on high. Jesus, the name above all names.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Leader: Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. All: Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. All: He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. Leader: For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him. All: God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life in him. Leader: Yes! He has removed our transgressions from us as far as the east is from the west. SONG OF ASSURANCE He Will Hold Me Fast

When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast; when the tempter would prevail, he will hold me fast. I could never keep my hold through life’s fearful path; for my love is often cold; he must hold me fast.

He will hold me fast, he will hold me fast; for my Savior loves me so, he will hold me fast.

Those he saves are his delight, Christ will hold me fast; precious in his holy sight, he will hold me fast. He’ll not let my soul be lost; his promises shall last; bought by him at such a cost, he will hold me fast.

For my life he bled and died, Christ will hold me fast; justice has been satisfied; he will hold me fast. Raised with him to endless life, he will hold me fast. ‘Till our faith is turned to sight, when he comes at last!

PRAYER WE OFFER OUR GIFTS If It Had Not Been

If it had not been for the Lord on my side, tell me where would I be? Where would I be?

He kept my enemies away, he let the sun shine through a cloudy day. He rocked me in the cradle of his arms when he knew I'd been battered and scarred. OLD TESTAMENT LESSON Numbers 25

1 While Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to whore with the daughters of Moab. 2 These invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 So Israel yoked himself to Baal of Peor. And the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel. 4 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Take all the chiefs of the people and hang them in the sun before Yahweh, that the fierce anger of Yahweh may turn away from Israel.” 5 And Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you kill those of his men who have yoked themselves to Baal of Peor.” 6 And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were weeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting. 7 When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose and left the congregation and took a spear in his hand 8 and went after the man of Israel into the chamber and pierced both of them, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. Thus the plague on the people of Israel was stopped. 9 Nevertheless, those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

10 And Yahweh said to Moses, 11 “Phinehas the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the people of Israel in my jealousy. 12 Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace, 13 and it shall be to him and to his descendants after him the covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the people of Israel.’” 14 The name of the slain man of Israel, who was killed with the Midianite woman, was Zimri the son of Salu, chief of a father's house belonging to the Simeonites. 15 And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, who was the tribal head of a father's house in Midian. 16 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 17 “Harass the Midianites and strike them down, 18 for they have harassed you with their wiles, with which they beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the chief of Midian, their sister, who was killed on the day of the plague on account of Peor.” NEW TESTAMENT LESSON 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

1 Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. 7 For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. 8 Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. Leader: The grass withers and the flower falls, All: but the Word of our God stands forever.
