HOME LEARNINGHome Learning

Students must read for 30 minutes each day.

Students must complete 3 sessions (30 minutes each) of Reading Plus weekly.

Students should have a chapter book for silent reading in class.

Students will have Language Arts and Math homework EVERY SINGLE DAY!

Please check your child’s AGENDA daily. Late homework is unacceptable. Time management is very important.

Third Grader is in charge of his/her responsibilities.

READING/ LANGUAGE ARTS Reading Plus–will start on week of September

Because of Winn Dixie Other novels will be read throughout the year.

AR- students must obtain 14 points for each quarter. The AR Point Scale will be as follows:

14 - 16 points = A 11 - 13 points = B 8 - 10 points = C 4 - 7 points = D 0 - 3 points = F

Writing- We will be working on writing to prepare for 4th grade.

REGULAR ASSIGNMENTSGRADING SCALE:

90 – 100 = A 80 – 89 = B 70 – 79 = C 60 – 69 = D 59 & below = F

*You will be notified through Interim Progress Reports and Report Cards about your child’s progress.

* If your child is struggling with something, I will contact you prior to Report Cards.

WHAT ABOUT F.C.A.T.?

Third grade students will be tested in the following areas this year:

FCAT Reading (task cards- in your open house packet)

FCAT Mathematics Critical Thinking/analysis/ “How do you

know?”/ Evidence

HOW TO CONTACT ME: The best way to get a hold of a teacher is through e-

mail. Please visit 3rd grade website or school website to locate the

correct email address.

Conferences must be scheduled. Please contact me with conference requests so that we can meet when we are both available.

I am flexible.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Electronic Grade Book – You can obtain

your pin number from the office for access to your child’s grades through the Parent Portal.

Be mindful of the Go Green Communicator for important information each week and please have your child return any important documents on the following day.

Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest and has a daily routine. Children need stable routines in order to achieve maximum performance.

MORNING ARRIVAL:

In the morning students wait for foreign language teachers at the PE shelter.

In order to ensure the safety of ALL the students, parents and children may not wait outside of the classrooms in the morning.

If it is raining in the morning, 3rd grade students must report to the Media Center where they will be picked up.

AFTERNOON DISMISSAL:

Students will be escorted to one of four locations:

1. Bus2. Camp @ Sunset 3. Playground Area- This is the designated waiting

area for parents who park and pick up their children in third grade. In case of rain – students will be in the cafeteria.

4. Vehicle Pickup – All students not going to locations 1–3 must be picked up at the designated vehicle pickup area. In case of rain –students will be kept indoors until they are escorted to their vehicles. *Please be sure to have the dashboard sign visible and neatly written to speed things along.

ABSENCES AND TARDIES:

•Please ensure that your children are here every day and on time. The school bell rings at 8:35 am.•If they are tardy, they must report to the main office.•If they are absent, please send a note the following day.

School Uniforms:Sunset Elementary is a mandatory uniform school. Please make sure your children wear their uniforms daily. Students must wear Polo style shirts Monday through Thursday and can wear a Crew neck style only on Fridays. Jackets must be either navy blue or gray.
