Pastor Stephen stated in the last newsletter that he hoped that 2017

would be a year that Deer Park members found their place to serve.

There are so many places where God can use your talents to serve oth-

the Bible tells us to. Moses tells the Israelites in Deuteronomy 10:12

that we are to serve the Lord with all our heart and with all our soul.

Joshua declares in 24:15 that as for him and his

household, he was planning to serve the Lord. Paul

tells us in Romans 12:11 to serve the Lord with zeal

and spiritual fervor. How many of us actually DO

that??? Not only are we to serve, but we are to do

it with ZEAL! Ask yourself these questions: What

is my talent? Where will I serve in 2017?

From Your Pastor

I hope that your 2017 has gotten off to a great start. The

New Year is often accompanied with new resolutions or com-mitments that many of us make. My focus for the first two

Sundays was to for each of us to commit to spend time with God daily and for us to receive His fresh blessings each day. On Sunday evenings, I am leading a class that will help you in

your commitment to spend time with God each day. I want to invite you to join me this Sunday evening at 5:00 in the

Chapel as we continue developing the discipline of “SOAP”ing through the Bible.

I also want to invite you to join us for Sunday School each Sunday morning at 9:45. Sunday School provides an oppor-

tunity for you to get to know other people at Deer Park, to study the Bible together, and to minister together as a class.

If you have not been to Sunday School or have not been in a while, I encourage you to be here this Sunday morning at 9:45 to join other people in growing together.

This Sunday morning, I am beginning a new sermon series on

Spiritual Warfare. The Bible is clear that we are in a battle but not a battle with other people. Ephesians 6:12 teaches “For

we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the

heavenly places.” I hope that you will join me as we learn what God has given us for this battle.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday morning in Sunday

School at 9:45 and worship at 11:00.

I love being your pastor!

Stephen Ladies Night Out

Go-Getters Senior Ministry Sanctity of Human Life Month

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

A great time was had by everyone at the Go-Getters meeting last

Tuesday — it is always nice to catch up with friends after the De-cember break!

The next Go-Getters meeting will be Tuesday, February 14th at

6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. As always, it will be “potluck,” so come and enjoy a special Valentine’s fellowship. The “Good Cheer Bag” donation items for this meeting will be travel-size

hand sanitizer or toothpaste.

If you are interested in the upcoming Caribbean cruise on Royal Caribbean’s “Allure of the Seas” on April 30th - May 7th, please

contact Fran Bath (843-572-1862) or Judy Rush (843-553-1844).

AWANA News

Thank you for helping the gospel resound by giving to the Lottie

Moon Christmas Offering! The Deer Park family lovingly and graciously gave $5,716 to this once-a-year mission!

OCC Sewing Get-Together

As announced in the previous newsletter, we will be collecting

for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes all year long. Part of this yearlong process includes making items for the

children who receive our boxes using items we may already have around our homes! So, we are jumping right in by hold-ing a Sewing Event!

Myra Huckabee will be leading this event in the Fellowship Hall

at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28th. We will be making pil-lowcase dresses, scarves and drawstring bags for the shoe-

boxes! You don’t sew? You can still help by measuring, pinning, cutting, ironing or

folding! We would just love to have your help! Bring your sewing machines, ex-tension cords, fabric scissors and any-

thing else you may need and get excited about lovingly serving God thru sewing!

Thursday, Jan. 19th, Highland Park Baptist Church (6211 Mur-

ray Dr. Hanahan) will be hosting the Women on Missions Sal-ad Supper. Each lady is asked to bring a salad to share. The

doors open at 6:00, with supper beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dan and Pam Johnson are the scheduled guest speakers. Tickets are $2.00/person. If interested in attending, let Diane in the

church office know by Tuesday, Jan. 17th and turn in your $2.00 at that time.

Sunday, January 22nd is officially "Sanctity of Human Life

Sunday," but the entire month is designated as a month to express your support for the cause of LIFE! With the aid of

the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center, the Deer Park Girls in Ac-tion (GA’s) will be helping with this cause to help preserve the Sanctity of Human Life and protect the lives of unborn babies.

Please look for the GA’s after worship service on January 22nd

at the exit doors — they will be handing out baby bottles for you to take home (or to your place of employment!) and fill

with coins, dollar bills or checks! Filled baby bottles can then be dropped off at the church of-

fice during regular office hours, handed to a GA member on Sunday, Jan. 29th or Sunday,

Feb. 5th or placed in the GA basket in Missions Corner.

Women On Missions Salad Supper

Ladies of Deer Park, you are invited to a night of fun and games!

The next Ladies Night Out will be Thursday, January 26th at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Our night out will include the Secret

Sister reveal and some large-group games, so bring your fun-loving, competitive (not too competitive) spirit and enjoy a night of

fun and fellowship with your Church sisters! Please bring a snack or dessert to share.

Drinks will be provided.

We are so happy to be back at AWANA and are very excited to

announce a big event coming up — GLOW NIGHT! Glow Night will be Sunday, January 29th. Clubbers will have a chance to

shop on Glow Night with “glow bucks”! The more points they have, the more “glow bucks” they get to shop with! So… parents, make sure that your children are studying their Bible

verses to earn points!

Also, with the weather being so unpredictable lately, please also remember to make sure your children are dressed appro-

priately for these colder temperatures. Thank you!

See you Sunday at 5:00! Ms. Debra and Ms. Betsy

New Discipleship Class in February

Beginning Sunday, Feb. 5th, at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel, a new 8-

week Discipleship Class entitled “The Way of the Master” will begin. This video study, led by Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron,

will help you learn how to overcome your fears by using a simple, effective way to make the gospel make sense to those you care about. They won’t just tell you how to witness, they will show

you. You will watch as they witness to people from all walks of life — gang members, atheists, intellectuals and others!

To order your copy of the course workbook, please sign your

name on the sign-up sheet hanging in Missions Corner at the end of the Education Building first floor hallway. A $5 donation for the

workbook would be appreciated, but is not required. Please con-tact course facilitators Tom or Myra Huckabee at 843-259-0320 with any questions.
