Ohio Construction Academy (OCA) provides high school students
an innovative educational opportunity to explore construction
related careers through an excellent foundation in academics and
rigorous contextual, hands-on curriculum that prepares them for
direct entry into the professional apprenticeship program, college,
and a career. OCA is a tuition free, fully accredited construction
technology academy. The program provides blended educational
opportunity, facilitating both online and on-site instruction. As
such, OCA enables a hands-on learning experience in construction
trades taught by highly qualified instructors who provide personal
attention to each student. Students attend class two days per week
and may also log in 24 hours a day, providing flexibility in the
learning process. Alongside the construction trade, OCA will
encourage each student to develop the necessary skills, attitudes,
and work ethic to be successful in their chosen career path. An ABC

ABC New Orleans/Bayou Chapter is currently in discussions with
a local ABC Member & the RSD to develop the concept of a
downtown satellite location, and plans to include the GNO Jump
Start Team for future meetings Step 1: Consultation on potential
location, determine pilot craft(s) for training given facility
logistics & industry need, determine pilot # of students (min
& max) to be trained per craft, determine instructor(s)
identification, training, hiring, payroll, & evaluation
processes Step 2: Regional teams (perhaps working in conjunction
with the Department of Education and their consultant, SREB)
develop a Proposal for creating a satellite location Step 3:
Collaborate with public & private sectors on identifying &
applying to funding sources Long-term: Our Chapter would be willing
to serve as an advisor to other regional teams interested in
creating satellite locations N EXT S TEPS
