What is a pesticide?Pesticides are chemicals designed to kill weeds, insects, fungi and other pests. Pesticides are used in agriculture and in homes, parks, and schools. Unlike fer-tilizers, they don’t supply plants with anything they need to grow. You may see agricultural pesticides being applied by plane, helicopter, tractor, backpack or hand sprayer. Because they are designed to kill, pesticides can be harmful to humans.
Why are pesticides dangerous?Many pesticides pose serious health problems. Some effects are immediate:
