Grand Knights message:Our May 11, 2017 meeting, began with the Pius X Knights coming together to pray
the Rosary, as a United Group of Catholic Gentlemen. As the New Columbian Year begins
(July 2017) we will be saying the Rosary prior to all Business Meetings @ 7:10 PM, in the
Church.
I am extremely pleased that after several months of discussion, the Council Voted
unanimously to update/change the Tuition Assistance Program. A copy of which will be
posted in the rear of the church along with applications. I thank all who supported this
updated. We applaud your choice to send your children to a Catholic institution of learning.
We are dedicated to providing monetary assistance for our brothers and sisters in Christ. In
the furtherance of Catholicism and assisting in the hardships of providing tuition we of St.
Pius X of the Knights of Columbus are proud to bring some measure of support to your
family.
Our annual communion breakfast is in the works. We have June 28th penciled in.
Please stay tuned and ready to support your Council on this important day.
The St. Pius X Council “Elections” will be held at the next Council business meeting.
I extend my deepest respect to those Council members who have stepped up to lead. Taking a
chair in the Council is a huge show of support and shares the burden of planning, running,
and creating our Council activities. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. The installation
of Officers Ceremonial will follow in the months ahead.
Our Advocate and Treasurer to the Nassau Chapter Jim Albert, PGK, FDD reports
that the Chapter Scholarships were awarded at the last Nassau Chapter meeting. Four
Catholic High School students receive $1,000 each year from the Chapter. In addition, two
$500 Winners took home checks. Elementary School and Faith Formation “CCD” students
also were awarded. Jim and Neil DeRosa, PGK co-chaired the event at St. Therese Council in
Valley Stream. I encourage all 3rd Degree members to attend at least one Nassau Chapter
meeting a year. It is where all 49 Councils of Nassau County come together for our first
principle Charity! Also, awarded was a “First Place” win for our “Pius Knights” newsletter.
We were voted best in Nassau County for a record 6th Time. The plaque will be on display in
our showcase soon.
The St. Pius X Council “Family Picnic” will be held on August 20th. Please keep the
date open. It will be in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Park on Washington Avenue again. I ask
all able bodied members to assist in the set-up of the event.
For a second year the “Memorial Day Parade” was cancelled due to rain. I want to
thank parade committee chairman Bob Jurik for his assistance in working with the parade
organizers. Bob stayed in touch with the committee to get the word out as soon as it became
available. We will try again next year.
Connie and I wish you all a Happy and Safe Summer.
Grand Knight Phil Saglimbene
