STAINLESS STEEL CHANNEL
For use with flexible sheet floor covering such as vinyl. Stainless steel clamp ensures watertight connection, access tochannel and outlet is easily achieved without disturbing the floor covering. Minimum grating width required = 80mm.
Regular profileSuitable for most standard applications.
Return edgeAdditional fold provides extra stability to channel edge and afloor finish abutment face.
Support edge Provides facility to receive and support floor finish.
Perimeter angle frame Helps prevent breakage of floor finish alongside the channeledge where heavy loads may be present.
Profile RP is available with a factory fitted, PVC angle edgingstrip to which sheet floor covering can be butt-welded at thetime of installation; such channels are particularly suited toheavy duty applications.Note: Suitable only for channels with grating of minimum 25mm depth.
Channel for use with gratings illustrated on pages 8 to 11 is available in a range ofprofiles, shown below. See typical installations on page 15.

OptionsTile upstand – designed for tiling over, recommendedwhere channel is being installed close to a tiled wall, (seeillustration on page 15) 75mm high unless otherwisespecified. Add suffix ‘T’.
Dual-level drainage – enables secondary drainage atmembrane level. See page 14 for details. Add suffix SSD, DSD (single or double).
Support bar – A solid stainless steel support bar helpsprevent deformation or movement of channel in heavy load bearing areas. To specify/order – add suffix ‘S’ to thechannel Spec. Code. (May be used with channel profiles:RP, RE, SE, PA or RPV).
Design considerationsWhen positioning channel adjacent to wall, ensureadequate allowance is made between channel and wall tocater for flooring manufacturer’s edging detail. Channelscan be manufactured with a level invert or in-built falls tosuit requirements.
Other requirements To suit particular applications channel can be custommade in austenitic grade 304 or 316, with or without fall, and with non standard profiles including deep invert, ‘V’ bottom, easy access and heavy duty versions. Pleasecontact our Technical Services Department for details.
Access covers with linear drainageSolid access covers may be fitted in channels whererequired, e.g. areas where a channel runs beneathequipment or walls. Covers may be secured or non-secured, manufactured of materials to match our gratingrange and may be recessed to accept flooring materialwhere depth is sufficient.
Gullies with linear drainageAs well as connecting directly to pipework, stainless steeldrainage channel may also be used with Wade FloorGullies, trapped or untrapped as illustrated on page 15.Note: If a channel has more than one outlet and gulliesare to be pre-installed, then accurate dimensions must beestablished. Where possible, gullies should be cast-inusing the channel assembly to determine positions.
Threshold drainageLinear drainage channels provide an ideal solution to theproblem of protecting building thresholds from the ingressof surface water. All of the channel profiles shown withinthis catalogue can be manufactured to suit specificrequirements, with slots or gratings at surface level; Wade‘Streamline’ gratings are particularly suited to thisapplication.

A. Drainage channel
1. Remove any gratings andclamping frames from channel.
2. Taking care not to twist, turnthe channel upside down (baseuppermost).
3. If there is more than onesection to the channel, applysilicone sealant to jointingflange faces and securely boltsections together. Rubbergaskets can be supplied toorder.
4. If connecting to a Wade gully, follow the instructions supplied.
5. Taking care not to twist, turnthe channel the correct way upand lower it into the trench andinto any installed gullies: ensuretop edge of channel is flushwith finished floor level, use theadjustment legs when supplied.
6. Bend the build-in ties asnecessary.
7. Make the pipework joints belowthe channel.
8. lf not supplied, provide andinsert spacer bars acrosschannel at approx. 500mmcentres. Spacer bars preventchannel being squeezed whilebackfill is being compactedand must not be removed untilbackfill is set.

B. Drainage Channel profile SVF – for use with flexiblesheet floor covering
The following additional notes/procedures apply:
1. Dress floor covering intochannel and fix in accordancewith flooring manufacturer'sinstructions.
2. Fit clamping frames andgratings.
C. Drainage channels withperimeter angle frame
The following additional notes/procedures apply:
1. The gap between the outsideedge of the channel and theangle frame is covered with anadhesive tape to prevent debrisfilling up the gap duringinstallation. Do not remove thetape until installation is complete.
2. When the channel isinstalled, lay the floor into theperimeter angle frame.
3. Once the floor is set, carefullyremove the spacer bars betweenthe angle frame and the channelusing an angle grinder or similar.
Note:Do not remove the spacer barsbefore fitting the channel, as itwould then be impossible tomaintain the position of theframe relative to the channel.
4. Thoroughly clean the gapbetween the channel and angleframe, degrease and fill with apermanently elastic expansionjoint sealant. If corrosivechemicals are likely to bepresent, consult sealantmanufacturer on suitability.
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
20
Note: After positioning the channel it is recommended that a water test beundertaken to check that height is correct, that, where applicable, thefall in the channel works effectively, that there are no leakages fromthe channel system and that there are no signs of deformation or ofdamage to the channel which may have occurred during installation. At this stage it may still be possible for any necessary rectificationwork to take place. Please consult our Technical ServicesDepartment if this situation arises.
D. Supaslot channels
The following additional notes/procedures apply:
1. The slot is covered with anadhesive tape to prevent debrisfalling into the channel duringinstallation. Do not remove thetape until installation iscomplete.
10. Taking care not to damageshow surfaces, place heavyweights on top of the channelprior to pouring backfill toprevent any lift or movement.
11. Backfill around the channelensuring that backfill materialflows evenly under and aroundthe channel such that no voidsare formed.
12. Remove immediately anymaterial which falls into thechannel.
13. When backfill is set, removespacer bars.
14. Fit gratings.
15. Clean channels and gratings with water and a suitablecleaning agent wherenecessary. Under nocircumstances use metalscouring pads or wire wool as these will contaminatesurfaces.

Used for gratingsA cast alloy with a fine grain effect which blends well withmost floor finishes. The satin finish is generally maintainedby the slight abrasive action of passing traffic. In unusedareas the material will gradually tarnish. To restore lustre, apply a plain nylon scouring pad (not soap-filled) in thedirection of the grain.

Ductile iron – BS EN 1563 and 1564
Used for gratingsA casting with the ductility of steel, yet with more thantwice the tensile strength of cast iron. A zinc anti-corrosioncoating is applied by sherardizing.
Cast iron – BS EN 1561
Used for gratings and gulliesA widely used metal in the drainage industry, its resistanceto corrosion permits extended use under extremeconditions. Castings are coated with a high grade lacquerpaint, applied by full immersion dip, to provide internal andexternal surface coverage. Paint will gradually wear off andis replaceable; oxidisation (surface rusting) is a naturalprocess which does not weaken the material. A zinc anti-corrosion coating is applied to certain castings bysherardizing.
Cast aluminium – LM6
Used for gratingsAn alloy chosen for its chemical resistance and durability.
Nylon 6
Used for filter bucketChosen for its toughness and durability.
