Design considerationsWhen positioning channel adjacent to wall, ensureadequate allowance is made between channel and wall tocater for flooring manufacturer’s edging detail. Channelscan be manufactured with a level invert or in-built falls tosuit requirements.

Other requirements To suit particular applications channel can be custommade in austenitic grade 304 or 316, with or without fall, and with non standard profiles including deep invert, ‘V’ bottom, easy access and heavy duty versions. Pleasecontact our Technical Services Department for details.

Access covers with linear drainageSolid access covers may be fitted in channels whererequired, e.g. areas where a channel runs beneathequipment or walls. Covers may be secured or non-secured, manufactured of materials to match our gratingrange and may be recessed to accept flooring materialwhere depth is sufficient.

Gullies with linear drainageAs well as connecting directly to pipework, stainless steeldrainage channel may also be used with Wade FloorGullies, trapped or untrapped as illustrated on page 15.Note: If a channel has more than one outlet and gulliesare to be pre-installed, then accurate dimensions must beestablished. Where possible, gullies should be cast-inusing the channel assembly to determine positions.

Threshold drainageLinear drainage channels provide an ideal solution to theproblem of protecting building thresholds from the ingressof surface water. All of the channel profiles shown withinthis catalogue can be manufactured to suit specificrequirements, with slots or gratings at surface level; Wade‘Streamline’ gratings are particularly suited to thisapplication.

MATERIALS/CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Materials/care and maintenanceMaterials and finish of Wade gratings and channel, described below, are selected to provide lastingperformance and to blend with surroundings. The productsrequire the minimum of maintenance, but periodicinspection should be carried out to ensure absence ofmatter which could impede drainage. Measures set outbelow will sustain appearance and prolong service life.

Stainless steel – austenitic grade 304

Used for channels, gratings, gullies, filter buckets and funnelsA corrosion-resistant metal containing significant amountsof nickel and chromium. Clean with soap and warm waterrinse and wipe dry. Gratings may also be cleaned in certaindishwashers. Under no circumstances treat with metalscouring pads, metal scrapers or wire wool as these willcontaminate surfaces leaving rust spots.

Nickel bronze – BS EN 1982 satin finish

Used for gratingsA cast alloy with a fine grain effect which blends well withmost floor finishes. The satin finish is generally maintainedby the slight abrasive action of passing traffic. In unusedareas the material will gradually tarnish. To restore lustre, apply a plain nylon scouring pad (not soap-filled) in thedirection of the grain.

Polished bronze – BS EN 1982

Used for gratingsA cast alloy suited for finished floors where the rich, bronzecolour complements the decor. The "mirror" finish is

Load rating classThis catalogue shows the load rating class for each gratingbased on BS EN 1433, as follows:

A 15 Areas which can be used only by pedestrians andpedal cyclists.

B 125 Footways, pedestrian and comparable areas, privatecar parks and car parking decks.

C 250 Kerbsides - maximum of 0.5 m into the carriage wayand a maximum of 0.2m into the footway.

The selection of the appropriate class is the responsibilityof the designer; where there is any doubt the strongerclass should be used.

produced by polishing. If left alone polished bronze willgradually tarnish. To restore lustre, use metal polish andbuff with a cloth. The mirror finish must not be treated withany abrasive cleaning material otherwise the surface will bepermanently scratched.

Ductile iron – BS EN 1563 and 1564

Used for gratingsA casting with the ductility of steel, yet with more thantwice the tensile strength of cast iron. A zinc anti-corrosioncoating is applied by sherardizing.

Cast iron – BS EN 1561

Used for gratings and gulliesA widely used metal in the drainage industry, its resistanceto corrosion permits extended use under extremeconditions. Castings are coated with a high grade lacquerpaint, applied by full immersion dip, to provide internal andexternal surface coverage. Paint will gradually wear off andis replaceable; oxidisation (surface rusting) is a naturalprocess which does not weaken the material. A zinc anti-corrosion coating is applied to certain castings bysherardizing.

Cast aluminium – LM6

Used for gratingsAn alloy chosen for its chemical resistance and durability.

Nylon 6

Used for filter bucketChosen for its toughness and durability.
