FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat makes a place Walkable?A walkable place is one which promotes a safe and comfortable experience for all modes of transportation. A walkable place is a community where buildings are brought close to the street with a mix of businesses and housing products for all incomes.

What is a Walkable Place District?A Walkable Place District is a local area that is created with the input and engagement of the community. Each district will have its own unique set of context sensitive development regulations. These regulations could include building facade, sidewalks widths, pedestrian amenities, and parking. Properties within the district’s boundary will have the opportunity to apply these rules once the property develops/redevelops.

What does a Walkable Place District not do?A walkable place district does not impact existing properties until a significant interior/exterior renovation/addition is performed. If there are no significant changes to the building, then the property is considered grandfathered and will remain “as is.” It also does not place any restrictions on land use.

Who benefits from a Walkable Place District? Property owners and the community as a whole, would benefit from a walkable place district. Local businesses will get more exposure from increased foot-traffic. Home owners and renters will have a strengthened well being sense of community.

How Could You Participate in Creating this Walkable Place District? Get involved in the process! Attend future meetings, spread the word in the community, provide feedback and share your thoughts.
