• You have much more control over the job getting process than you may be aware
• You determine the outcome of your job search based on the effort you put into it
• You have the ability (and responsibility) to “pick and choose” just like an employer does.
TAKE
RESPONSIBILITY
FOR
• the direction of your career
• the presentation of your skills
• knowing your value proposition
• knowing what you want to do
• knowing what you expect from an employer

• What do you need for the relationship to be mutually beneficial?
• What is absolutely necessary in your job (autonomy, authority, freedom, status, security, social relationships, etc.)

• Why are you considering working for this specific company?
EVALUATION
• Not only will the answers to these questions help guide your decisions, they will also prepare you to answer the interviewer’s questions more effectively.
• You are expected to be the expert on you, and if you take the time to determine these issues before the interview, you will be in a much better position to present your expertise well.
BENEFITS
• Knowing the answers to these questions before an interview also helps to guide your decision making.
– You have the criteria on which to base decisions
– You have clarity on what you need to learn in the interview, and what you need to convey
– You have greater confidence
• Ultimately, there are two questions an interview is designed to answer:
– Does the company want to hire you?
– Do you want to work for this company?
