Want to go for a walk in the Snowdon area but want to avoid the crowds? Why not give this lovely circular walk in Nant Gwynant on the foothills of Snowdon a go? The walk offers wonderful views of Llyn Gwynant and the surrounding mountains and countryside. Nant Gwynant Circular Walk Distance: Around 9 kilometres/5½ miles Time: Around 3-4 hours Grade: Moderate Start/finish: SNPA car park, Nant Gwynant Facilities: Pay and display car park, public conveniences Grid reference: SH 627 506 Relevant map: Ordnance Survey Explorer OL17 (Snowdon & Conwy Valley) Cymedrol Moderate From the car park, cross the road and walk along the pavement towards Beddgelert. In around 500 meters you will see the back road to Nantmor on the opposite side. Follow the Nantmor road past the entrance to Llyndy farm where the road begins to climb steeper. You will shortly pass Castell farm and then come to a sharp right hand bend. Follow the public footpath to the left from here. The path leads to Afon Llynedno river. Cross the timber bridge and follow the path across the field. From here you will enjoy a wonderful view towards Moel Hebog, Yr Aran, Snowdon and Y Glyderau. You will reach a small gate and a timber boardwalk. Until fairly recently this area was covered in Rhododendron, but after a great effort to control them most of them have been cleared, although the remains of some can still be seen. The path runs through Coed yr Eryr woods before joining an old farm track on the other side. It will take you past an old agricultural barn before affording you a view of Llyn Gwynant. Follow the track down to the main road, turn right and follow the road for around 500 metres. Follow the path that leads around the lake shore towards Llyn Gwynant Campsite. Public footpath signs will guide you through the campsite to a stone bridge over Afon Glaslyn river. Go over the bridge and follow the path to the left through the woods before climbing up Penamnen precipice, which is an ideal spot to take a break and take in the magnificent view across Llyn Gwynant. You will continue through the woods before crossing a stile that will take you on to quite wet terrain. Once past this section you will reach a point where you will be looking down Nant Gwynant with Coed yr Eryr on the left and Afon Glaslyn leading you back to the car park at Pont Bethania Follow the path until you reach the Hafod y Llan farm track. After passing some old ruins, cross the field to a timber bridge. From here you will see the path leading along the river towards the car park. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
