Fresher’s Social
Volunteering
Socials:
We have two dedicated Social Secretaries
each year, Tom Birmingham and Imogen
Andrews will be taking up the reins this year.
Socials are a great way to meet other BMS
students and we always make the effort to
go all out! Keep a look out for the Fresher’s
social at the beginning of the year, you’d be
crazy to miss it!
Sports:
Your Sports Secs this year are Beth
Waddington and Ben Raspin. They’re in
charge of setting up our various sports teams
from Football to Netball who compete in in-
tramural leagues against teams from other
courses. We have a lot to offer, even if you
don’t want to play competitively come down
and just have some fun. There’ll be more
information in September, so come and see
us if you’re interested!
Who are we?
The Biomedical Science Society is run for
BMS students, by BMS students. We are
an active society which runs lots of events
and opportunities each year for our mem-
bers, from the trip abroad to volunteering
in schools there’s something for everyone.
We look forward to meeting you all in
September!
Abbie Shillito, President
Terence Au, Vice President
Publicity and Careers:
This year Ellie Simms is our publicity and
careers officer. We run various careers
events each year with talks from graduate
employers such as Teach First. Ellie will
also be regularly updating our Facebook
and Twitter to keep you all updated with
the latest BMSSoc news and events so
you’ll never miss anything!
Events:
BMSSoc events are huge! Each year we
run a trip abroad, in previous years we
have visited Prague (2015), Brussels
(2014) and Amsterdam (2013). So keep
your eyes peeled! We also run an end of
year ball, with a record of 327 in attend-
ance last year. Events are a great way to
meet students from other years in BMS.
Sammie Brettel and Hollie Cowley will be
making all of these things happen this
coming academic year.
Charities:
This coming year Teresa Liew will be our
dedicated Charities Officer. We have big
plans this year to raise money for “Sheffield
Hospitals Charity” who we support each year.
It’s a great cause so keep your eyes peeled
for our wacky activities and help us to raise as
much as possible for this well deserved
cause. Previous fundraising events include a
charity skydive and chicken goujon eating
competition.
Volunteering:
Mujtaba Agha will be your Volunteering Of-
ficer this year. Volunteering is a great way to
enhance your CV and we’re looking at provid-
ing even more opportunities for you to get in-
volved this year. From the weekly BMS Sci-
ence Club in a local school to one off day
events there’s plenty on offer to keep you
busy!
Treasurer and Inclusions:
Your treasurer and Inclusions officer for the
next academic year is Ewan Jones. Ewan will
be making sure that there’s a variety of events
and activities to suit everyone. He’ll also be
keeping check of our finances to make sure
that we have enough money in the accounts
to be able to offer you all the best opportuni-
ties we can!
See You All Soon!
