Message from the SCRS Board Chair By Pam Garbin
As I write this I am just a few hours away from the first day of school Truly a sign that summer is over and Fall is just around the corner The kids are excited I think I am more excited truly the most wonderful time of the year Will be great to get back into routines
I was so happy to hear about the withdrawl of Oxbow Sulpurs Appeal As a residents society I want to let you know that we care about our community as much as you do and I really want to thank Mike Morin as well as the other board members for the time spent making sure that anyone who matters heard how we did not want this in our backyard Our councillor Al Vinni also made sure that council was aware of our concerns and is still pursuing making sure that industry will not be put near our community
I want to give a big shout out to the RMWB and thank them for the fantastic summer program that they brought out to Saprae Creek this year It was such a great opportunity for my kids and I am sure others enjoyed the peaceful Monday and Tuesdays sans children To the programmers thank you for watching out for the kids and bringing some great theme day activities that all the kids enjoyed Cannot wait til next year it is definitely something that as a Residents Society we make sure to ask that we be
included in all the pre-planning of programs like this
I also want to thank Vera from the HUB program for continuing to bring the program out here during the summer it was another great socializing opportunity for the kids this summer
This September brings the return of Family Movie Night Yoga the 3rd Annual Family Fun Run or Walk together with other Family Fun Day Activities and if you have not yet but have wanted to sign your child up for taekwondo this would be the best month to do so classes resume on Sunday September 13th Thank you to Jamie Osmond and his family for spending each and every Sunday evening here in Saprae Creek we really appreciate your time and effort We just had another group of kids tip test this last Sunday and it is always great to see how far they have come along
Again I hope that the teenagers in Saprae are taking advantage of some of the Saprae Creek Youth Group activities that Michael Hill plans for our community thank you Michael for all that you are doing for the youth in Saprae Creek Have a great month everyone
Councillorrsquos Corner - September 2015 by Al Vinni
Well itrsquos that time of the year back to school for the children and the end of summer for
us all Of course still lots of good weather before winter sets in but Fall is definitely in the
air
I would like to report on the progress of many capital projects in Draper and
Saprae Creek but first just to confirm present economic and political condi-
tions have made Oxbow Sulfur decide to not pursue permission to build a
sulfur processing plant at the railhead and that is good news for all the resi-
dents of Saprae Creek Despite this good news I intend to proceed with the
support of Council and our administration to look at putting in the new Land
Use By-Law (ldquoLUBrdquo) that is being drawn up for this Fallrsquos session of Council
specific terms about the set-backsboundaries that will be required between
residential land and industrial land With this overlay of a boundary system
on our ever changing municipality we in the rural hamlets will not have to be
constantly fighting the industrial installations that always seem to want to
position themselves right on our doorstep Watch for more on this new LUB
in the coming months
As for capital projects significant progress has been made on the new Saline
Creek Parkway that is being built to replace part of the Draper Road I was
out there today and the new road is really starting to take shape Certainly
the section that runs along Waterways is quite well done Eventually this
parkway will go up the river bank into the new Saline Creek Plateau area and
wind through that new subdivision to join its other end being the road that
runs north-south on the west side of the airport lands (Someday they will
have the proper signage on this road it is officially named Saline Creek Park-
way)
Speaking of road names I also want to confirm that the RMWB has taken
over old Highway 69 from the Province and it has been renamed Saprae
Creek Trail That was my idea and no I did not ask anyone I just proposed it
to the committee they liked it and Council passed it I hope you will agree
that it is a good name for the road we take into town and to Highway 63
Look for the new signage for this road someday soon as well
Probably do not have to tell many of you how nice Freestone Way Saprae Cres and Rue
Road look Beautiful smooth blacktop and ditches that work and look good now that the
sod is going into them I for one am really pleased with the quality of the work So next
year as part of an overall integrated plan we will see Community Lane Sol Park and
Weiss Drive get finished the year after Spruce Valley Drive will be done The sewer and
water installations will also start next spring and all of this work is planned to be com-
pleted by the end of 2017 There will still be a number of community engagements re-
garding these projects and I commit to you that news on these projects will be put out
to the community on a continuous and timely basis Communication will be one of the
hallmarks of this overall project of roads sewer and water
Same goes for Draper Road but the sewer and water system work will begin in 2016
with planned completion by the end of 2018 (As an aside the RMWB will have its water
and septage haul set-up and ready to go by the end of October and that system will stay
in place until the new systems are operational) So in a few short years we will all have
high quality roads and sewer and water that is equivalent in delivery and dependability
to that in cities It will enhance our lifestyle and increase our property values
Further feasibility studies on the community halls that will be built in Saprae Creek and
on Draper Road will be finished shortly and it is expected that these projects will be
funded in the upcoming budget for completion by the end of 2017 These much needed
facilities will make it much easier to conduct the programming that our resident
societies put on and allow us to enjoy events classes parties etc in our own
communities rather than always having to go into town So I am looking forward to that
Also it is anticipated that the Saprae Creek Firehall expansion will have their
construction budget funded in this Fallrsquos budget so much need improvements can be
made to our Firehall Last but not least Kevin Grogan and his staff have been working
very hard on developing the golf course at Vista Ridge and are hoping to start clearing
trees and doing ground work this Fall for a 2017 or 2018 opening of the great little golf
course they have planned This will be a course that will encourage juniors novices
women and families to come out and play without the pressure that sometimes comes
from playing a full 18-hole championship course
So a lot of things will be going on in Ward 3 the next couple of years all of which are
going to make our neighbourhoods even better places to live and play With our
successes in fending off industry we can expect the kind of lifestyle we imaged when we
moved Draper Road and Saprae Creek Talk to you next month
Thx Al Vinni

pleted by the end of 2017 There will still be a number of community engagements re-
garding these projects and I commit to you that news on these projects will be put out
to the community on a continuous and timely basis Communication will be one of the
hallmarks of this overall project of roads sewer and water
