A MESSAGE FROM THE SCRS CHAIR
JON ALCOCK
First off; for those families and friends traveling forthe Holiday, safe travels and may you enjoy thewarmth of family for Thanksgiving.
The summer was a busy time for Solange Maherand Tracey Unger while they planned the festivitiesfor the Grand opening ceremonies at the Playgroundand Skate Park. A huge amount of organizing, negotiating, fund raising was done in order to havesuch a fantastic and flawless day. So please take thetime to thank both of those ladies.
The turn out for the above mentioned gathering wassignificant! Our neighbourhood is friendly andopen because we come out in such wonderfulnumbers to participate and meet each other. Thenew Winnie Sommer Playground ceremonies wereparticular moving for Winnie’s daughters and theirfamilies, who traveled great distances to be herewith us. We had three guest speakers fromprovincial and local government, hon. GuyBoutillier MLA, hon. Mayor Melissa Blake andcouncilor Renee Rebus of Ward 3.Also inattendance were Sharon Clarkson and Phil Meagher.Thank you honored guests for participating with ourcommunity.
Kids were the focus at the Playground ceremonies.A large blow up car and huge slide were wellutilized during the two celebrations. It was amazingto see so many new families and such a wondrousarray of ages. The firefighting practice area waswell received so another huge thank you needs to goout to the volunteers and fire fighters present, aswell as providing the hotdogs and other eats duringthe ceremonies.
The second Grand opening ceremonies took place atthe Skate Park under some stormy skies. Kazam, askateboarding group, were invited to participate andgive a demonstration to residents. However, theweather didn’t cooperate and the conditions werenot safe to utilize the entire park. Despite that theywere able to perform some pretty sweet tricks.Thank you Kazam and members for coming to thecelebration. After a few more speeches from yourstruly, hon. Melissa Blake and councilor ReneeRebus most of Saprae Creek ventured across theparking lot to sit down and feast! Bertini’s cateringcreated a scrumptious meal for all! Salads, dessertschicken, burgers and smokies all made for a fillingmeal. Ivanhoe Energy sponsored the BBQ, and itwas the highlight of the day and a great way tofinish off.
If you haven’t already seen it, we’ve got a newneighbourhood sign on the road into the Creek. Solook for announcements to be posted at the newlocation.
Please utilize the activities planned by Pam Garbinand Michelle Archibald. They have worked veryhard to make use of Vista Ridge and Spruce Valleyroom for the community as a whole. Yoga classes, movie nights and so much more. Please see thepostings at the mail boxes for upcoming events.
Have a great October and we will see you all out atthe Ski hill soon again.
