We’re less than six weeks from Christmas. I guess the about-average temper- atures have lulled me into thinking we were still somewhere in September. There’s a lot for us to cover between now and then. Before we get ahead of ourselves, however, here are a few things that stand be- tween us and the beginning of December: Church Conference: The Transition Committee and Pastor Search Committee will be presenting the Church Profile and the Pastor Profile this Wednesday. These two documents are the re- sults of many hours of hard work by the two committees, and by Debra Smith and Stacy Jones in particular. If you’re not able to at- tend, you can pick up a copy of each this Sunday. Ladies’ Christmas Tea: This Thursday and Friday are important days for our church. Tables will be decorated, a wonderful meal will be prepared, and the Gospel will be shared. As of today, we still need men who can help park cars and wait on tables. If you can help on one or both evenings, please wear dark pants, white shirt, and a tie -- and arrive at 6:00 p.m. Operation Christmas Child: We will be collecting our shoeboxes this Sunday. We need volunteers to meet back at the church at 2:00 p.m. to packing the shoeboxes into larger cardboard boxes, and to help deliver them to Faith Baptist Church. Community Thanksgiving Service: The churches in our com- munity will gather at Lighthouse World Outreach this Sunday even- ing at 6:00 p.m. for a community-wide service. We will be celebrat- ing 25 years of Faith in Serving Humanity. Home Alone: One of the newer traditions at First Baptist is gath- ering on Thanksgiving Day to celebrate with church family. We’ll be preparing the turkeys. All you need to bring is a dish or two. Please call the church office if you plan on coming. Hanging of the Green: We will “hang the green” in the sanctuary on November 27th at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the beginning of Ad- vent. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall where you can sign up to help a local child with Christmas and / or help pay for medical needs through FISH M.D.

    Wanna be the hands and

feet of Jesus? It's last minute, but the need is great. Hurricane Matthew took over 26 lives and the destruction of homes and businesses is in the billions of dollars. FBC Monroe high school students and adults are invit-ed to participate in a disaster relief effort in Conway, South Carolina, November 19-22. We'll be staying at North Con-way Baptist Church. Because of the nature of disaster relief, it's impossible to know exactly what we'll be doing, but more than likely it will be the "mud-out" of houses. We'll share more details as they become available. There is a small fee of $27 per person per day. If you are interested, please email Gordon at [email protected] .

A Service of Hope and Healing

This special service will be held in our chapel on December 4th at 2:00 p.m. This service is a time for remem-brance and healing as we walk through the Christmas holidays without loved ones who have meant so much to us. Todd Ware and Chuck Christie will lead our time together.
