The frontispiece, titled Pair of Ducks, is described as item 102 in the catalogue: "After twoimpressions, the plate was steel-faced and the necessary two hundred and seventy-five proofswere printed on Shogun paper and bound into the copies of the book." After printing the plate wasdestroyed. One of only 725 copies produced, reprinted fromthe 1683 edition. Founded in 1922, None-such Press was a private press founded by a husband andwife, and their friend in the base-ment of Birrell & Garnett's bookshop on Gerrard Street in Soho,London, of which their friend was co-owner. The press produced around 140 books on poetry andliterature, reaching its peak pro-duction in the 1920s and 30s. It used a small hand press to designbooks but printed them via com-mercial printer, resulting in high-quality designs with thecapability of a large distribution. Abraham Cowley was one of the leading British poets of the 17thcentury, admired and known for his elaborate, decorative language.(#38849)                                                                                                                       $ 125.

First edition of Fernow's revised English translation of the earliest Dutch municipal records of NewAmsterdam, the region now known as New York City. In the 1830s, Cornelius Westbrook was hiredto translate the ordinances of the city and the first book of court minutes. In 1848, Edmund B.O'Callaghan was hired to continue and complete Westbrook's translations. In this edition, BertholdFernow made a completely new translation of volume 1, which he considered to have been poorlytranslated previously, and revised and edited the rest of the volumes. First edition of Samuel Rawson Gardiner's seminal work on the English Civil War. Thiswork traces the events from the beginning of the conflict through the Battle of Marston Moor, theturning point for the Parliamentarians. Gardiner's work was a significant contribution at the timeof its publication and continues to be a valuable account. First edition, withhand-colored plates, of a noted agricultural dictionary. Thomas Potts was an English lawyer andwriter known for compiling agricultural reference books. This farming dictionary starts with the"Abolition of Tythes," a plan on abolishing the direct tax on agricultural earnings, and ends with"Yorkshire-White," the perennial flower. The colored engravings at the end of the dictionary mainlydepict livestock, machinery, flowers, among other agricultural entries. Fine. Early edition of a biography of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. In the early 16th century,Charles V (1500-1558) was chosen by his grandfather to become the Holy Roman Emperor, inherit-ing a vast empire including the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, and Hapsburg regions. As a resultof his desire to expand and fears he was trying to create a universal monarchy across Europe, histime as emperor was dominated by a series of conflicts, including the Protestant Reformation,advances from the Ottoman Empire in the east, and the Italian Wars with France. Towards the endof his reign, he transferred power to his son, who became Philip II of Spain, and his brother, whobecame Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I.
