What is a right triangle?
It is a triangle which has an angle that is 90 degrees.
The two sides that make up the right angle are called legs.
The side opposite the right angle is the hypotenuse.

The Pythagorean Theorem
In a right triangle, if a and b are the measures of the legs and c is the
hypotenuse, then
a2 + b2 = c2.
Note: The hypotenuse, c, is always the longest side.
Find the length of the hypotenuse,
if a = 3 and b = 432 + 42 = c2
9 + 16 = c2
25 = c2
Take the square root of both sides.
5 = c
225 c
52 + 122 = c2
25 + 144 = c2
169 = c2
Take the square root of both sides.
13 = c
Find the length of the hypotenuse, if a = 5 and b = 12.
2169 c
Find the length of the leg, if a = 7 and c = 25.
72 + b2 = 252
49 + b2 = 625Solve for b.
16 - 49 + b2 = 625 - 49b2 = 576
b = 24
