Dear Parents & Caregivers

Congratulations Once again to our School Captains for 2015 Peyton E., Mitchell H., Bronte S. and Caitlin M. who

received their badges at the assembly last week.

To the 15 students who represented at the Blue Mountains PSSA Swimming Carnival last Friday with many personal bests swum. Well done to Ivy E. 5/4BK and Will H. 2B who will now represent at the Sydney West Swimming Carnival on the 16th March 2015 at Homebush Olympic Swimming Centre.

To Will H. 2B and Myles F. 6/5T who competed in the Region 6 Athletic Championships at Blacktown International Sports Park. Will placed 1st in two events, achieving one record and Myles placed 2nd in three events. Myles will now progress to the State Championships.

To Cleveland A. and Mitchell H. for being selected in the BMPSSA Touch Football Representative team.

School Hats Parents, the wearing of a school hat is part of the school uniform code. Coloured hats should not be worn. This will assist the school as we consider options for our identification of our 8 Anaphylaxis students.

Please check your child’s hat has their name inside it and that it is theirs’ as we have had a number of hats lost over the past few weeks. Please return any misplaced/misappropriated hats to the office for return to their owners. Thank you.

Textbooks For those who missed the opportunity to buy at school, all textbooks are available through the ‘Turning Page Bookshop’ in Springwood.

Parking Please be mindful of our neighbours when picking up or dropping off your children, by not parking in or across their driveways blocking them in. Thank you.

March P&C Meeting – Term 1, 2015 All parents, caregivers and community members are very welcome at our monthly P&C Meetings. The next meeting is 7.30pm, Tuesday 10th March 2015, in the staffroom. Michael Kitchin Principal

Schools’ Clean Up Day

NOW – Friday, 6th

March 2015 In 2015 we are celebrating 25 years of volunteer action to ‘Clean Up Australia.’ Last year, an estimated 572,406 volunteers cleaned up 15,708 tonnes at 7,140 sites across Australia. Thankfully, there’s not too much rubbish at Warrimoo Public School! It’s an activity that assists our students to learn about the impact of litter on our environment and make a difference in their school and local community. With this in mind, would each student from K–6 bring along a pair of gardening gloves for Friday 6th March 2015. Mrs Beaton (on behalf of our Environment Committee)

ATTENTION: 6-5T

6/5T Fundraising for 2015 6/5T will once again be raising funds for the end of year farewell to Year 6 and for their gift to the school. We plan to begin with the limited sale of chocolates both during recess time at school, and at home via the students. We hope that each student will be responsible for the sale of one box of mixed chocolates and sweets (about 38 units). They are products chosen by the students.

We have planned our fundraising for the weeks leading up to Easter, hoping that this would be more convenient for families. We hope to start selling at the beginning of Week 7 Term 1 2015 (Monday 9th March). Chocolates will be sold for $1 or $2 each and bags of lollies for $3 each.

Please complete and return the following form to indicate whether your child will be involved. We are aware that some students have allergies to products containing nuts and will do our best to consider the needs and safety of these students.

Author / Illustrator Visit - Susan Berran Author of ‘The Freaky Series’

We have been very fortunate to be able to book a visit from Susan Berran on Friday 20

th March 2015.

She is an advocate for children’s literacy. She uses her illustrator skills to help ignite and encourage enjoyment of reading and writing. She will be running workshop with the children from K-6. A brief outline of what the workshops entail: Stage 1 (K/1/2) - 45 minute session

Short reading and some fun building and drawing own characters Stage 2 & 3 - 90 minute session

Short reading, some tips & tricks towards better writing; ie character building, bringing your story to life etc

We are pleased that we were able to timetable a visit for early in the year as we are hoping to build on the interest and encourage children to develop their writing. This will be particularly beneficial for the children sitting NAPLAN this year. The cost of the workshop is $3.00 for Kindergarten – Year 2 and $5 for Year 3 – Year 6. We encourage all children to attend. Payment is due no later than Thursday 12

th March, 2015.

Warrimoo Public School’s

Swimming Carnival

On Friday 27th February 2015, the following fifteen students from Warrimoo Public School participated in the Blue Mountains

PSSA Swimming Carnival at Glenbrook pool - Cleveland A, Jaclyn B, Louise B, Lucinda B, Ivy E, Peyton E, Quinn E, Myles F,

Will H, Mitchell H, Catherine M, Caitlin M, Hamish M, Imogen P, and Wil W. It was a very overcast day but the rain did stay

away and the sun made a brief appearance from time to time. The students all represented the school in a fine manner,

displaying great behaviour, great swimming talent (some even breaking their own PB’s) and great sportsmanship. Well Done, Warrimoo!

Two students – Will H (8yrs 50m Free) and Ivy E (Jnr Breaststroke and 10 yrs 50m

Free) were successful in their events and have been selected to represent the Blue

Mountains Zone in the Sydney West Regional Swimming Carnival which will be held on Monday 16th March, at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre - we wish them both

well and I know they will represent the school with pride.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kirsty Mitchell for stepping up and being Team Manager on the day, as I was on time-keeping for the whole day. I

would also like to thank the wonderful parents who came along to support and cheer on the children in their races. Finally, I would like to give a special thank you

to the children for their wonderful behaviour and team spirit they displayed on the day.

A Fantastic day was had by all!

Ukulele T Shirt Following our performance at the Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival I perceived a need for a shirt that distinguishes the Warrimoo ukulele group from other school groups.

I have found a design called ‘The Black Cow Face’ which would make a statement and fit with the theme of Mookulele (Warrimoo PS being built on the site of a former dairy). The cost of one of these T Shirts would be approximately $20 per shirt delivered to the school (cost to be confirmed). I will not proceed with ordering unless all

Mookulele members can have one. Please complete the following attachment if you would like your child to have a Black Cow Face T Shirt. Mr Tomlins Attention: Mr Tomlins

Monthly P&C Meeting

Annual General Meeting NEXT WEEK

Tuesday 10th March 7:30pm

This month’s P&C Meeting will the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday 10th March in the staff room.

All parents, caregivers and community members are welcome to attend.

P&C Assistance Required!

Vital P&C Roles must be filled at the March AGM

The P&C's AGM will be occurring in March and whilst all roles are vacated and re-elected at this

meeting, there are 2 roles in particular that must be filled with new people. Both the current

president and treasurer have been in the role for 3 years and so can no longer continue in these

positions.

As the P&C plays a vital role within the school community, particularly in relation to raising

additional funds to assist with the education of our children, it is imperative that these 2 positions

get filled.

The role of president doesn't take too much time apart from being at and chairing the meetings

which happen 2 to 3 times per term.

The role of treasurer takes more time but does not require accounting experience, purely a

reasonable ability with numbers and an attention to detail.

If this sounds like you PLEASE consider helping out the Warrimoo PS community. The current

treasurer will still be around and is more than happy to assist whoever takes this position on until

they feel comfortable with what needs to be done.

If you have any questions or feel willing to consider this position, please contact Kirsty on (02)

4751 3361 or 0411 260 215.

Many thanks for your consideration of these two positions, the P&C committee.
